Northfield, Maine - William Henry Blaine IV passed away at the age of 81, on April 10, 2026. He was born in Trinidad, Colorado, on November 14, 1944. He was the son of William Henry Blaine III and Valerie Whiting Blaine.
He went to grade school in Hingham, MA, while spending his summers at Bog Lake in Northfield, ME. Upon graduating from the University of Maine with a degree in chemical engineering he went to flight school and became a helicopter pilot for the United States Army serving his country in the Vietnam War. He was a member of the Army National Guard in Maine until he retired as a lieutenant colonel and moved back to Bog Lake. In his retirement he worked as a civilian for the government teaching soldiers. His greatest love was flying. He was an amazing father, teacher, and coach. He also had a huge love for animals and nature. He loved boating, fishing, and bird hunting with dogs, which he learned from his lifelong best friend, Bud Plante. All of his children fondly remember going out on the boat at night to look at the stars. He loved teaching them everything he knew about constellations and navigation by using them. As an amazing father, teacher, coach, soldier, and person he will be forever loved and missed.
He is survived by his son, William and his children, Joshua, Nicholas, and Braeden; his daughter, Barbara and her husband, Brian, and her son, Kyle; his daughter, Brenda and her husband, Charlie, and his children, Dylan and Luke; his son, Matthew and his wife, Gloria; his son, Mark and his wife, Lori, and their children, Ethan and Lyla; stepdaughter, Sarah Ramsdell and her husband, Troy, and their children, Findlay and Liam; and his wife, Genie and her daughter, Meagan. He was predeceased by Blair Matthews Blaine and Janine Plante Blaine.
