Bangor, Maine - Wesley Wayne Hartt, a beloved son, brother, father, and friend, passed away peacefully on August 29, 2025, in Bangor, Maine. He was born on May 5, 1950, and lived life marked by service, and an unwavering dedication to his family, friends and community. Wesley was the son of Cecile (Sue) Hartt and Wendell Hartt.
He was preceded in death by his father, Wendell; his mother, Sue; and his brother, Livingston "Skip" Hartt, who all remain lovingly remembered by those who knew them. Wesley is survived by his sisters, Wanda Hartt, and Charlotte Rahmlow and her husband, Herb Rahmlow. He leaves behind his loving son, Shawn Rice-Hartt, and Shawn's husband, Michael Rice-Hartt, who brought great joy to Wesley's life. In addition to his immediate family, Wesley is survived by numerous nephews, cousins, and a vast circle of friends, all of whom will miss his jokes, kindness, and infectious laughter.
He served his country with honor during the Vietnam War as part of the 25th Infantry Division, and earned a Purple Heart for his bravery. He was known by the nickname "Baby" since he was the youngest in his unit. He made many friends during this time and considered them brothers that he routinely kept in touch with. His military service was a testament to his courage and dedication, qualities that defined him throughout his life.
Wesley's journey after the war led him to work at the Great Northern Paper Mill, where he dedicated many years of his life. Afterward, he became a proud member of the American Legion and the VFW, as well as a valued member of the Elks in Millinocket. He was known not only for his service in these organizations, but also for his generous spirit. Wesley consistently contributed to countless charities and extended help to those in need.
In his personal life, Wesley found joy in golfing, hunting, camping and fishing. He also loved to play cribbage, which brought him joy, especially in his later years. His love for these things was only surpassed by his affection for those close to him, particularly during gatherings where laughter and storytelling filled the air.
At his request, Wesley's final resting place will be at Mount Pleasant Cemetery in Bangor, where the graveside memorial will be announced at a later date. We extend our heartfelt gratitude to the staff at Maine Veterans Home for their kindness and care during his final days—a testament to how much he was loved and respected by those who knew him.
