Wesley
Bangor - Wesley E. Hiatt, 84, passed away in his home surrounded by those he loved most in this world, his family, July 6th, 2020. He was born November 2nd, 1935, in Mount Kisco, New York, and was the son of Silas and Dorothy (Sands) Hiatt.
It is impossible to sum up his life in a few sentences as he lived a long, large, and impactful existence, touching and changing all those around him. Wesley first and foremost was a great writer. His writing was second to none as his knowledge of the spoken word and his passion, love, and emotion rang through in every phrase that was strewn together. The image of him sitting on the floor amongst notebooks and pages will be embedded forever in the memory of him by those that knew him well. His writing went across all genres as he loved the craft and could compose a poem, a short story, and a novel with what seemed like an effortless beauty.
Family was the most important thing to him. His undying love for his wife and his awe and devotion of the woman she is was in almost every conversation he would have. That followed by his love and pride for his children and grandchildren. Wes loved big and wasn't afraid to show it. He wasn't afraid to cry and he wasn't afraid to say he was sorry. He understood more than anyone that life at times could be fleeting and he planned on never allowing words to go unspoken.
He served in the Army and was very connected to the Veterans community. He served as a servant to the community all of his life in one realm or another, whether it be professionally or just helping a person he caught up a conversation with who was down on their luck. Wes loved the underdog and the disadvantaged. He did not care who you were, where you came from, or what others thought. He would meet each person with kindness and knowledge in the hopes he could make a difference (which he certainly did). Wes loved imparting wisdom in the youth he came across, whether it be his children's friends or on one of his many journeys. He believed in the goodness of all people. He was a prayerful man and his faith in God came through in everything he did. He found great pleasure in being connected to prayer lines and was always doing what he could to help his fellow man.
He was a powerful presence, larger than life, and saying he will be missed is the most drastic understatement because there is no replacement for a man who never compromised his beliefs without the need to compromise others. He was just love.
In addition to his parents, he is predeceased by his sister Dorothy (Dotty) Hiatt his brother Russell Hiatt and his son Seth who he loved dearly.
Surviving in addition to the love of his life and wife of 49 years is his son Sean Hiatt who took care of him tirelessly to assure he was comfortable right until the end and grandson Maxx; his daughter Sarah Hiatt and her husband David Leighton; granddaughters Belle Spearin and Emma Spearin and grandson Aidan Leighton; his son Joshua Hiatt and wife Jasemen Hiatt; granddaughters Juliette, Scarlett, and Dorothy Hiatt; along with his son John Hiatt; he is also survived by family near and dear to his heart in Meriden, Connecticut where he grew up, spent so much of his life, met his wife, and made connections that would last his whole life; uncle Don and aunt Eve and their children Donnie, Kenny, Lori and Kim; and his aunts Katherine, Helen, Mabel, and Edna were such an important part of his life and who he spoke of always with love.
A celebration of life will be held from 5:30 PM to 8:30 PM on 2020-07-15 at First Assembly of God, 614 Finson Road, Bangor, Maine, USA.
