Presque Isle, Maine - Wayne A. Knight, passed away peacefully at age 85 surrounded by his family, on December 1, 2020.

Wayne was a native of Presque Isle, attending Presque Isle High School and then graduating from Ricker College in Houlton, Maine.

Wayne was a well-known Broadcaster Journalist. He started his career in 1956 while attending Ricker College, at WABM after auditioning for a radio program. Wayne was then hired by WAGM in Presque Isle where he created "The Potato Picker Special" which connected the farmers to their workers during the potato harvest. Every show started with the Dick Curless song "Tater Raisin Man". The show went on for 36 years and was highly praised. Wayne was awarded The Baxter Award for Public Service Broadcasting, Maine Potato Commission, Maine Potato Council, and Future Farmers of America. Wayne was featured in several magazines and newspaper articles as well as featured on CBS, ABC, and NBC. Wayne was particularly proud of an article written by Dick Stewart of the Boston Globe that was entered into the congressional records in 1975, at the request of William S Cohen. Wayne was a familiar voice of horse races, truck and tractor pulls at the Northern Maine Fair, as well as play by play for high school basketball games.

He is survived by his wife of 64 years, Jane Knight, and their daughters, Kathryn Knight, Karla Knight (her husband, Eric Hannelius), Karen Westphal (deceased), and Kelley Knight Christie (her husband, Jason Christie). Wayne has 7 grandchildren: Nicole Westphal-Clouse, Katie Wise, Joseph Tourville, John-Luc Tourville, Genevieve Hannelius, JD Christie, Jax Christie. Additionally, he has 2 great-grandchildren: Russell Clouse and Harris Ramey. A service for Wayne is expectedly planned for July 2021.
