Wallace Crawford Palmer
Brooksville - Wallace Crawford Palmer, 86, (Wally) of Brooksville died peacefully at home on October 3, 2019 surrounded by family and his beloved dog Sassy. Wally was born to Wallace and Margaret Palmer on March 17, 1933. He grew up in Princeton, NJ and was a graduate of the Lawrenceville School in 1952 and Union College in 1956. It was in college where he met the love of his life, Jane, and they married a week after graduation in 1956.
He served in the US Army from 1956 to 1960. He began his career working for the John A. Roebling Steel Company in Trenton, NJ and then in Cleveland, OH. Upon retirement, the family moved to Brooksville, where Wally and Jane found their true home and many lifelong friends.
An avid outdoorsman, Wally was very proud of his involvement with many conservation groups, amongst them Ducks Unlimited and The Atlantic Salmon Federation. He served four years as Chairman of the Acadia Chapter of Ducks Unlimited, while being instrumental in the construction of the Atlantic Salmon Heritage Museum, the only of its kind in the United States which is located in Orland. He was especially proud of his involvement in the cultivation and releasing of salmon fry into various rivers with many local public schools. Wally was also Commodore of the Bucks Harbor Yacht Club from 1989-1991.
Wally was predeceased by his parents and sister, Susan Robertson and nephew Duncan. He is survived by his wife of 63 years, Jane, son Mark and his wife Kim of Eastham, MA and daughter Julie and her husband Jim of Hudson, NH. He also leaves behind five beloved grandchildren, Jack, Chelsea, Taylor and her husband Dan, Maggie and Sam along with nine nieces and nephews.
There will be a private family burial service, and a celebration of his life at a later date. In lieu of flowers, gifts can be made to the Friends of Craig Brook c/o Kit Migel, 21 Oakpoint Lane, Sedgwick, ME or mailed to the Acadia Chapter of Ducks Unlimited c/o Glen Astbury, PO Box 508, Blue Hill, ME, 04614.

Dwight called me today with the news. Although this was not unexpected, it's always a sad day. Our hearts go out to Jane and Julie and Mark and Sassy. Take care of each other. Wally was such fun at any gathering. We'll miss him terribly. Alison & Dwight

I am very fortunate to have such fond memories of Wally. I will never forget the story of the rocking train engine nor, will I forget ice fishing adventures or the best Bloody Marys ever.
Wally and Jane have been and still are such caring people and I love that I have been touched by them.
I send out lots of love to Jane and their family.
