STANDISH - STANDISH - Virginia Rose Moon, 90, of Jamison Farm Road, died Friday, Oct. 30, 2009, at a Portland health care facility. Born April 17, 1919, in Caribou, she was a daughter of C. Oscar and Vesta M. Sheppard Olson. She attended schools in Caribou, was a 1937 graduate of Caribou High School and a 1941 graduate of Aroostook State Normal School. For 17 years she taught school in several places including Loring Air Force Base, Limestone. In 1956 she married Richard Bennett "Ben" Moon of Goodyear, Ariz., a member of the U.S. Air Forces. In the next few years, they were stationed in several different places. She was proud of the fact that she had been to 30 states, Canada, Mexico, Wake Island and Japan. Upon retirement they moved to Buckeye, Ariz. During their years in Arizona, they were both active members of Maricopa County Sheriff's Department, serving on the White Tanks Sheriff's Posse desert search and rescue team. Virginia moved back to Maine in 1993 after the death of her husband. She was a member of Standish Senior Citizens, Order of Eastern Star, Disabled American Veterans' Auxiliary and American Legion Auxiliary. She was predeceased by her parents; two brothers, Shepard Olson and Philip Olson, both of Caribou; and a sister-in-law, Thelma Olson of Caribou. Surviving are a sister, Marie Clifford of Standish; a sister-in-law, Hazel Olson of Caribou; seven nieces and nephews, Peter Olson, Carl Olson and Gary Olson, all of Caribou, Elaine Donovan of Caswell, Linda Norsworthy of Woodland, Loren Clifford of Warner-Robins, Ga., and Glenna Jamison of Standish; many great-nieces, great-nephews, great-great-nieces and great-great-nephews. There will be no funeral in Maine. Interment will be at Louis B. Hazelton Memorial Park, Buckeye, Ariz. Arrangements are by Dolby and Dorr Funeral Chapel, Gorham.
