Virginia Wheeler Martin
She was born on December 27, 1926, in St. Albans, Maine, the daughter of Harold and Mabel (Wood) Wheeler. She married Selden J. Martin on June 26, 1946, and they shared 67 years together. She graduated from Hartland Academy in 1945. Before marrying Selden, she taught in a one room school house. Over the remaining years, she raised her family while running an egg farm, working at Northeast Shoe first stitching shoes, then working in the office. She then went to work for Hughes Insurance after getting her license. After moving to Florida, she studied to be a CNA and cared for Alzheimer's patients who loved her tender loving care.
Virginia was an avid homemaker who loved spending time with her family, especially her grandchildren. During summers at camp on Moose Lake, she spent hours on the beach watching them swim, riding bikes, playing wiffle ball, and teaching her granddaughters to knit, crochet, and sew. She is remembered for baking special treats.
