Virginia D. Cote Obituary

Fort Fairfield, Maine - Our beloved mother Virginia Dawn (Doughty) Cote passed away peacefully on July 11, 2026, at the age of 80, at Rising Hill Assisted Living, Limestone. She was born August 15, 1945, in Fort Fairfield, the daughter of Franklin and Doris (Hansen) Doughty.

She was a lifelong resident of Fort Fairfield and was a graduate of the Fort Fairfield High School, class of 1964. Throughout the years, Mom worked at various local businesses, including Hillside IGA in Fort Fairfield, and made many friends along the way. She had an open personality that brought joy and warmth to everyone who knew her. Her true passion was always her children, Shawn and Janelle, until her grandson Seth was born, after which her world revolved around him. Earlier this year, she was given the gift of a great-grandchild, her "pretty baby," Leela Rae Cote.

In addition to her parents, she was predeceased by her husband of 42 years, Herman Cote; her stepfather, George Nichols; in-laws, Lilianne and Edward Cote; her three brothers, Gary, Linwood, and Darryl "Butch" Doughty; her sisters, Patricia Mahn and Janet Owens; and her son-in-law, Kevin Kearney, whom she adored. She is survived by her daughter and favorite child, Janelle; her son, Shawn and his wife, Kimberly, all of Fort Fairfield; grandson, Seth and his wife, Malerie; her great-granddaughter, Leela Rae, all of Castle Hill; her sister, Joanne Wilcox of Fort Fairfield; and a very special grand fur baby, Riggs ("Riggy Diggy Do"); and several special nieces and nephews, and dear friends.

Her family would like to thank the staff of Rising Hill Assisted Living and Andwell Home Care and Hospice.

Friends may call Friday, July 17, 2026, from 1 to 2 p.m. at Giberson-Dorsey Funeral Home and Cremation Service, 144 Main St., Fort Fairfield, where the funeral service will be conducted at 2 p.m. with the Rev. Ronald Doughty officiating. Interment will follow at the St. Denis Catholic Cemetery, Fort Fairfield. Box 201, Fort Fairfield, ME 04742, where she served as a council member and volunteer. Online condolences may be expressed at gibersondorseyfuneralhome.com.
