Newburgh, Maine - Vernon Chester Carr passed away at home on April 18, 2026, in the company of his loving family. Vernon was born on January 9, 1934, in Clifton, Maine, son of the late Porter H. Carr and Alice Rankin Carr.

Vernon served four years in the U.S. Air Force, where he earned the Good Conduct Medal and The Soldier's Medal for Heroism. Vernon worked at various jobs throughout the years, working for Bernard Ginn cutting wood, city of Bangor, self-employed pulp truck owner, and the town of Hampden. Vernon enjoyed socializing at the Newburgh Dysart's, wearing his Trump hat, and spending hours having a cup of coffee with his coffee buddies. He enjoyed spending time with Bobby and Sandra Dunton and all the horseshoe players. He enjoyed hunting, fishing and riding around the Maine woods with his friends, Bobby Dunton, Rodney Dunton, Junior Dunton, Robert Day, Robert Kelly, Stan and Judy Badger, and Jake Gould. Vernon enjoyed riding along with Al Babcock in his trucks and assisting him when able. Vernon enjoyed traveling and spending countless hours puttering around his property on his four-wheeler.

Vernon is survived by two children, Michael Carr of Winterport and Melissa Carlstad and her husband, James, of Newburgh; stepgrandson, Robert Carlstad and his wife, Paula, of Randolph; two great-grandchildren, Judith Carlstad and James Carlstad; niece, Cathy Wolfe and her husband, John, of Waterboro; great-niece, Jennifer Mulligan and her husband, Mike, of Brunswick; niece-in-law, Irene Powers of China; great-nephew, Tommy Powers and wife, Stephanie, of Waterville; great-nephew, Tristan Powers and wife, Peggy, of China; great-niece, Shannon Powers of China; former sister-in-law, Mattie Lawrence of Norfolk, VA; nephew, Roger Carr and his wife, Lynn Carr, of Boone, NC; niece, Judy O'Brien and her husband, Ken, of Drake's Branch, VA; sister-in-law, Betty Roach and her husband, George, of Hampden; nephew, Peter Roach of Orland; nephew, George Roach of VA; nephew, Donald Smith Jr. and wife, Diane, of AZ; nephew, Brian Smith and wife, Vonda, of Milford; nephew, Jay Smith of CO; and nephew, Bert Smith of Old Town. Vernon was predeceased by his wife, Geraldine Carr; brother, Lyman Carr of Clifton; sister, Virginia Powers and husband, Tom, of Waterboro; sister-in-law, Inez Buxton and her husband, Frank, of Hampden; brother-in-law, Donald Smith Sr. of Hampden; brother-in-law, William "Billy" Smith of Hampden, nephew, Tom "Tommy Jo" Powers of China; and father-in-law and mother-in-law, Harold and Inez Smith of Hampden.

A celebration of life will be at the Newburgh Town Office on Saturday, May 16, 2026, from 1 to 4 p.m. The family will have a private graveside service at a later time.
