Newport, Maine - Timothy James, 76, passed away on November 3, 2024, at his home in Newport. Tim was born on February 8, 1948, in Portland, Maine, a son of the late Frederick and Virginia (Gokey) James.
He graduated from Harvard with a master's degree in education. He was a barber throughout his lifetime, and ended his career settling in Newport with Tim's Barber Shop. He served in the past as program director for the Hope House in Bangor, and had owned and operated Abbak Counseling, helping others through addiction.
Tim was known for his sharp intellect, quick wit, and engaging conversations. He had a unique sense of humor and a wealth of knowledge across many subjects. A lifelong enthusiast of cars, particularly Fords, Tim's love for motorsports ran deep - he was not only an avid fan, but also supported local racing talent by sponsoring a few local drivers.
He is survived by his two sons, John James and companion, Mindy, and Brandon James and companion, Melissa; grandson, Jacob; granddaughter, Alexis; brother, Tom James; nieces and nephews, Joni, Joseph, Sean, and Kimberly; his godson, Joe DeCosta; and special friend, Michele. He was predeceased by his son, Ben; and brother, Gus.
A time of visiting will be held from 2-4 p.m., with a time of sharing at 3:30 p.m., Saturday, November 9, 2024, at Shorey-Nichols Funeral Home, 191 Hartland Ave., Pittsfield. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be given to Milestone Recovery, 65 India St., Portland, ME, 04104, in his memory.
