Bangor, Maine - Thomas "Tom" McDonald, age 75, of Bangor finished his earthly journey on January 19, 2026, after a year long battle with cancer. He was born in Millinocket and spent his childhood at Smith Pond.
He would go on to graduate from Stearns High School, class of 1968. He loved sports and was a 3 sport athlete playing basketball, baseball, and football. Like many men in his community he would go to work at the Great Northern Paper mill. In November 1972 he married the love of his life, Sharon MacKenzie, at the Baptist Church in Plymouth. They were married for more than 53 years. She cared for him bedside until the Lord took him home. After an accident at the paper mill in 1985 Tom was forced to switch career paths. He ended up selling cars where he enjoyed a successful career spanning over 3 decades, working alongside lifelong friends. Tom was an avid candle pin bowler, softball player, and golfer.
He is survived by his wife, Sharon; their son, Matthew and his wife, Cassandra, of Hancock; their son, Christopher and his wife, Jessica, of Hermon; his twin brother, Terry McDonald and his partner, Brenda Gore; his sister, Betsy Freeman; youngest sibling, Bill McDonald and his wife, Brenda; his grandchildren he adored, Lucas, James, Tommy, and Sophia; his in-laws, Mike and Linda Seavey, Phil and Brenda Ripton, Butch and Laurie MacKenzie, Lorraine Hawthorne and partner, Tony, Buck and Betty MacKenzie, Kris MacKenzie and partner, Todd, and Scott and Darby Mackenzie; close friends and family, Teresa Cook and George Martin, and nephews and niece, Angela, Cain, Adam, and Aaron McDonald, Danny Pyatt, and many more!
Per his request there will be no funeral but a private burial that will happen in Millinocket in the spring. Plans are being made for a celebration of life in his hometown of Millinocket. Donations may be made to your local youth sports programs.
