Terrence "Terry" Ross Dwyer Obituary

Island Falls, Maine - Terrence "Terry" Ross Dwyer, 80, died unexpectedly on December 25, 2019, at Eastern Maine Medical Center in Bangor, after a brief illness. Born in Island Falls on September 27, 1939, he was the son of Ross and Isadora (McFarland) Dwyer.

He graduated high school in Island Falls, class of 1958. He was employed in health care roles throughout his career, including positions at the Augusta Mental Health Institute, Togus Veteran's Hospital, and Country Manor Nursing Home in Coopers Mills. Throughout his life he was an avid caregiver to those around him. After meeting his partner and companion of more than 35 years, Neil Glidden, he became a devoted co-parent to Neil's children. Together, they shared many adventures in Maine, Oregon and Nevada, eventually returning to Terry's roots in Aroostook County. Friendly and outgoing, Terry made many friends and acquaintances over the years through his community involvement and service work. He enjoyed theater and took part in the Gaslight Theater group in Augusta. He volunteered at the food bank in Boothbay Harbor, was an active member of the Grange, and served as a Town selectman in Island Falls. Terry gardened and canned. He appreciated family and being close to his brother and sisters, often enjoying the meals they shared and finding that right spot for "a lunch." A skilled card player, Terry was always open to a game of Cribbage or Hand & Foot. He will be sadly missed.

He was predeceased by his partner, Neil Glidden; and his siblings, Virginia Irish, Erva Staples, Charles Dwyer Sr., and Edward Dwyer. He is survived by his sisters, Edith Dwyer of Island Falls and Mary Lawler of Patten; his nephew, Jeffrey Lawler and his wife, Cindy, of Pattern; and numerous other nieces, nephews and their families; as well as the children he raised as his own, Dena Ford of Vancouver, Wash., Kermit Glidden of Coopers Mills, Shawn Glidden of Newberg, Ore., Jeffrey Glidden of Murfreesboro, Tenn., and their families.

A graveside service will be held 11 a.m. Saturday, August 8, at Sand Hill Cemetery, Somerville (rain or shine). Arrangements are being made by Hall Funeral Home, 949 Main St., Waldoboro.
