Colchester, Connecticut - Susan E. Guillette entered this world in Worcester, MA, on October 31, 1953, the second child of Roland E. and Florence M. Guillette. Susan died in Colchester, CT, on July 29, 2026.

She was known to readers through Emmet Meara's BDN columns as "Blue Eyes." Susan enjoyed a very happy childhood in Grafton, MA, Middle Haddam, CT, and Newcastle, ME, and was educated in those states. Susan eventually moved to Rockland, ME, where she found her calling for nearly 30 years (1976-2005) as the superior court clerk of courts for Knox County and later, in addition, the district court clerk for Knox County. Although she felt that it was a privilege and an honor to work for the state of Maine in this capacity, after much reflection, she left state employment and began a new career as a legal assistant at the Strout & Payson, P. A. law firm in Rockland. After 10 years, retirement beckoned. Susan shared nearly 37 years of her life with her kindred spirit, soulmate, and true love, Emmet Meara of Camden, ME, who died in 2020. Emmet shared many of her interests and together they enjoyed much love and laughter, great music, skiing vacations, biking, canoeing, kayaking, sailing, and hiking adventures, a great respect for the outdoors and a joyful love for all beasts and birds.

Susan was predeceased by her parents. Survivors include Susan's sister, Linda Yanowicz and brother-in-law, John Yanowicz, of Connecticut; her nephews, Jared Yanowicz of Connecticut and Justin Yanowicz of Colorado; and several cousins.

Interment is planned for Saint Philip Cemetery, Grafton, MA, after a brief graveside service. There are no calling hours.
