Sue Ann MacLeod Obituary
Portland, Maine - Sue Ann MacLeod, 76, died peacefully at home in Portland on August 28, 2025, surrounded by her loving family, following a brief period of declining health. Sue Ann was born as Sue Ann Field on July 26, 1949, in Bangor, Maine, to Prudence (Prudie) and Kenneth Field.
She grew up in Bangor and graduated from John Bapst Memorial High School. After first attending the University of Maine in Orono, Sue Ann graduated summa cum laude from Champlain College in Burlington, Vermont. She returned home to Bangor after college, where she met the love of her life, Roger MacLeod, and they were married in 1974.
While Sue Ann's most cherished role was a mom and nana, she also had a successful career, first as an office manager for a local otolaryngologist and later as a medical billing coordinator at a local family practice. In addition to spending time with family, Sue Ann loved baking pies, Christmas cookies, and her famous seven-layer bars, reading her way through every Danielle Steel novel, playing almost any card game (especially bridge), and traveling, highlighted by the Alaskan vacation Roger convinced her to take with him in 2005, a three-week European adventure with her brother, Danny, in 2010, and multiple trips to her "happy place," Waikiki Beach.
Sue Ann is survived by her son and daughter-in-law, Brian and Stephanie MacLeod; her grandchildren, Isla and Everett; her brother, Danny Field and his husband, Gary Robinson; her stepchildren, Christine (Chris) Coutts and husband, Stephen, Robert "Bob" MacLeod and wife, Elaine, Brenda Kenney, Lynn Titus, Jay MacLeod and wife, Sara; and her nine stepgrandchildren. She was predeceased by her beloved husband, Roger; her parents, Prudie and Kenneth; Danny's first husband, Eric Gomoll; Brenda's husband, Paul Kenney; and Lynn's husband, Les Titus.
Sue Ann and her family were grateful to the residents and staff of The Park Danforth in Portland for immediately welcoming her into their community and easing her transition from Brewer over the last year. Sue Ann and her family also share deep gratitude for the wonderful care she received in the final weeks of her life from the amazing, compassionate people at Maine Medical Center, Pine Point Center, MaineHealth Palliative Care, and Hospice of Southern Maine.
A celebration of Sue Ann's life will be held in the MacLeod family lot at Mt. Hope Cemetery in Bangor on Friday, September 5, at 10 a.m. Following the service, family and close friends are invited to share memories and appetizers at Kosta's Restaurant in Brewer at 11 a.m. In lieu of flowers, Sue Ann asked donations be made to MAINEiacs Charities, P.O. Box 2764, Bangor, ME 04401, to continue the Maine Air National Guard's tradition of service to its community.
