Glenburn - Stephanie Lois (Leskowsky) Van Gurp passed December 29, 2019, at a Bangor nursing home, after an extended period of care, due to Parkinson's disease. She was born November 6, 1949 in Butler, Pennsylvania, to Ruth and Stephen Leskowsky.
Stephanie graduated from Shenandoah High School, Shenandoah, Pennsylvania. After a short time to enjoy family and friends, she enlisted in the US Air Force. At the end of basic training, she received an assignment to Sheppard Air Force Base, in Wichita Falls, Texas. It was during this assignment that she met her future husband, Barry Van Gurp. On his reassignment to Vandenberg AFB, California, Stephanie joined him. At Vandenberg AFB, their son Michael was born. Stephanie left the Air Force to care for their son. Over the next 24 years, Stephanie, Barry and Michael enjoyed traveling to locations in Texas and Germany. Their final assignment was to Loring Air Force Base in Limestone, Maine where they stayed for 11 years. On Barry's retirement, Stephanie and Barry retired in the Glenburn area. Stephanie was a commissary cashier at Loring and Bangor Air Guard Bases.
In addition to her parents, Stephanie was predeceased by her older brothers, Thomas and Francis.
She is survived by her husband, Barry; a son, Michael; a sister, Margaret and husband, John of Frackville, Pennsylvania; a brother, Daniel and wife, Diane of Harvest, Alabama; and several grandchildren, nieces, and nephews from Pennsylvania to Arizona. She is already missed by her special friend, a Maine Coon cat, Phredd.
Stephanie made many friends through her years and enjoyed their cards and letters. Stephanie always said she was a "libriaded woman and can do anything I want". She lived up to that statement. She was strong willed throughout her life.
Private interment will take place in Pennsylvania in the spring, where she will join her mother. Donations in Stephanie's memory may be made to The Michael J. Fox Foundation, P.O. Box 5014, Hagerstown, Maryland, 21741-5014, to progress research for every day individuals who are diagnosed with this disease, or to a charity of one's choice.
