Brewer, Maine - Shirley Theresa Bossie Brissette, 90, died peacefully at home of kidney disease on August 29, 2025. She was born September 4, 1934, in Stockholm, ME, the eldest child of Edwin J. and Lucie (Gagnon) Bossie.
She attended Stockholm Elementary School through 8th grade, and Caribou High School before transferring to Ricker High School in Houlton. She was an excellent student - especially in spelling. Married to Delmar Brissette on February 14, 1950, she raised ten children. She also was a mail contractor for 44 years; driving from Caribou to New Sweden and Stockholm twice a day, Monday through Saturday and delivering mail to more than sixty families from Stockholm to Cross Lake, six days a week.
While living in Stockholm, she was a long-time PTA member, a member of the Catholic Order of Foresters and a parishioner of St Theresa's Catholic Church for 69 years. She and her husband moved to Eddington in 2003. After her husband died in 2009, she bought a small house in Brewer in 2012 where she lived independently. She was especially happy with her neighbors since her daughter, Brenda, lived four houses away and she so appreciated her daily assistance and attention. She was a parishioner of St. Joseph's Catholic Church for 22 years.
She loved having her children and grandchildren around. In addition, she enjoyed reading the Bangor Daily News and doing the puzzles - crossword, Cryptoquip, Sudoku, and Jumble. She had a wonderful vocabulary, made any word puzzle look easy and was a fierce competitor playing Jeopardy!. She also crocheted many tablecloths and afghans for all of her children, was an avid reader, maintained beautiful flower gardens, and loved making jigsaw puzzles. Competitive games of cribbage with Brenda and Curtis were a highlight in her later years.
She is survived by her seven children, Bruce (Diane) of Greenville, MI, Sharon (Giff) Swanson of Orrington, ME, Brian (Jane) of Presque Isle, ME, Russ of Atlanta, GA, Brenda (Ken) of Brewer, ME, Curtis (Frank) of Stetson, and Scott (Patricia) of Yakima, WA; daughter-in-law, Lisa Brissette of Woodland, ME; 10 grandchildren, Christopher, Megan, Michael, Danielle, Jennifer, Angela, Eric, Justin, Ryan, and Evan; 14 great-grandchildren; 2 siblings, Anne Sandstrom of Stockholm, ME, and Richard Bossie of Caribou; and several nieces, nephews, and cousins. Besides her parents and her husband, she was predeceased by a daughter, Connie Sites (1983); a son, Kevin (2002); a son, Steven (2022); a grandson, Tracy (2002); three brothers, Peter, Jim and Roger Bossie; and an infant sister, Bernice.
On what would have been her 91st birthday, a funeral Mass will be held Thursday, September 4, at 10 a.m. at St. Theresa in Stockholm. Immediately following, the "pizza and cake" birthday party she had planned will be held at the Stockholm Community Center. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Stockholm Historical Society and Museum, 280 Main St., P.O. Box 1, Stockholm, ME 04783.
