Lisbon - Shirley Bertha Ernestine Danforth McDonald Greenwood King, 85, a resident of Lisbon, Maine, died on Thursday, January 31, 2019 at home with her family around her. She was born on the day of the New Auburn Fire, May 15, 1933 in Lewiston, the daughter of Stanley and Beatrice Sherman Danforth. She was educated in the Wales schools and was a 1951 graduate of Edward Little High School in Auburn; Ernestine also attended and graduated from Pelletier's School of Cosmetology in Lewiston Maine, and the American Hair Design Institute in New York City. Ernestine was the Owner and Operator of the "Beauty Box" Beauty Salon for 35 years; she Owned and Operated the "Sodalite Manor Boarding Home"; and the "Old McDonald Fudge Farm" with her children, Shelli and Tracy; she worked as a Seasonal Cashier for L. L. Bean in Freeport for several years. Ernestine and her son Tracy co-owned, created and distributed a magazine for the Bangor community. She was a volunteer at the Togus VA Hospital; worked as a Senior Case Assistant; served as the Past President of Union 6 Senior Citizens; she joined the Eastern Star in1951 and was a past Matron of the OES Mystic Chapter #69, Litchfield and a past Grand Representative to Mississippi from Maine; she was a 74 year member of the Wales Presbyterian Church, where she served as a Ruling Elder. On September 22, 1951, she married Sheldon E. McDonald. Ernestine, Sheldon and her children Shelli-Hope and Tracy-March lived and farmed in Maine and Florida over several years. The family were Charter members of the Belted Galloway Cattle Association. Ernestine and Sheldon celebrated their 25th Wedding Anniversary in Hawaii and later took a Caribbean Cruise together. Sheldon McDonald passed away on May 5, 1983. In 2001 she married a high school classmate, Forest Stanley Greenwood. He passed away in 2003. She married Charles "Tom" King of Bath, Maine on August 3, 2009 in Alabama. She is survived by her husband Tom, of Lisbon; her daughter, Shelli-Hope (McDonald) Pride and her husband Donald Pride, of Portland; two Grandchildren, Donald Jeffery "D.J." Pride, II and Danielle Marie "Miss Muffet" Pride; a nephew, Dwight Hawkins and his wife Susan, of North Monmouth, and a grandniece Karen Hawkins Ainsworth and her husband Scott and their children. She was predeceased by her Parents; her Son, Tracy-March McDonald in 2012; her Brother, Stanley Danforth Jr. in 1963; her sister Beatrice in 2011 and brother-in-law Norman Hawkins; and a Grandson Gabriel Pride. Funeral services will be held 1PM, Tuesday, February 5th at Bragdon-Finley Funeral Home, 707 Main Street, Monmouth, Maine. Visiting hours will be held from 4-7PM on Monday, February 4th at the funeral home. Interment will take place at the Veterans Memorial Cemetery, Civic Center Drive, Augusta, Maine. Hello Shelli,
I'm very sorry for your loss. Your mother led a very full life and I'm sure you and your family will miss her. in 2015 I became a resident of Florida, so I will be unable to attend the visiting hours. However, I will keep you in my thoughts.
