Yarmouth, Maine - Ruth B. Mills, 89, of Yarmouth, died peacefully on Friday, November 10, 2017, with her loving family at her side.

She was born on August 14, 1928, in Parkman, Maine, one of two children of Archie J. and Evelyn P. Boutot. She attended Parkman and Guilford Schools, and graduated from Emmanuel College in Boston. While in Boston, she met her husband, Henry Wadsworth Kaniaulono Mills, a college student from Hawaii. They were married on April 7, 1951, and settled in Maine, first Portland, then Yarmouth, living in Hawaii during brief periods in 1951 and 1961-63.

Family was the center of Ruth's life. She lived in Yarmouth for more than 50 years, where she and Hank raised seven children. She was part of the large Pinette family that settled in Guilford, Maine. She stayed in close touch with her sister Didi and valued visits with extended family. She enjoyed many holiday gatherings with her children and their families over the years, which always included her cousin, Rev. James Knox.

Ruth was trained as a medical secretary, and worked for doctors in Maine and Hawaii. After her youngest child started school, she returned to work, first as a payroll clerk at Royal River Packing Company, then as a commercial property underwriter at New Hampshire Insurance Group. Following her retirement, for over 20 years she volunteered every Tuesday at the Good Cause Thrift Shop in Portland, with her friend Theo Colello.

Ruth was predeceased by her husband on October 31, 1985, and her sister, C. Dolores Schulz, on December 26, 2010. She is survived by her seven children, Patricia (Kevin) Brown of Gray, Jeffrey (Janet) Mills of Brunswick, Margaret Mills (Henry Beeuwkes) of Saco, Katherine Mills of Yarmouth, Rebecca (Joseph) Beote of Gray, Jon Mills of Yarmouth, Bruce Mills (Sarah Hewes, fiancé) of Portland; eleven grandchildren, Jessica (Jeff) Wood, Ian Brown, Jennifer (Drew) Primavera, Stephanie (Tim) Owens, Claire Beeuwkes, Joseph Beote, Rachael Beote, Jack Mills, Olivia Mills, Eric Mills, Laura Mills; two great-grandchildren, Ryan Owens and Anson Wood; and several cousins.

The family would like to thank the staff at Cedars and Mercy Hospital for their kind and expert care.

A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, 326 Main St., Yarmouth, Maine, on Saturday, November 18, at 11:00 a.m. At Ruth's request, there will be no visiting hours and burial will be private.
