Ronald E. Hopkins Obituary

Newport and Needham, MA, Maine - Ronald E. Hopkins, 89, died peacefully, with his wife and family by his side, on January 16, 2025, in Bangor. He was born on November 13, 1935, in Needham, MA, son of the late Preston and Hermance (Phaneuf) Hopkins.

He was a carpenter by trade and very proud to be part of the union. Ronnie was honest, generous, hardworking and a true family man who loved spending time with his large extended family. The kind of man who "checked all the boxes." He loved to garden and would deliver vegetables to family, friends and the local food bank. He enjoyed helping out the local elementary school by reading to the kids. He liked studying genealogy and was one of the family members to start the Hopkins Family Reunion in 1970.

He is survived by his wife of 69 years, Barbara Hopkins, who he lovingly called Buttercup; children, Margaret Hopkins and partner, Reginald Richard, Christine Frazee and husband, Mark, Glenn Hopkins and wife, Donna, and Carol Pearl and husband, Ralph; grandchildren, Adrienne Kinchla and husband, Greg, Ralph Pearl Jr. and wife, Amanda, Michael Frazee and wife, Mary, Regina Pearl, Ethan Pearl, and Daniel Frazee and wife, Lucy; special stepgranddaughter, Jessica Freeman and husband, Ryan; 14 great-grandchildren; brother, Preston Hopkins and wife, Debbie; sisters-in-law, Carol Thistle and Beverly Hopkins; and many nieces and nephews in both the Hopkins and Ouellet families. He was predeceased by his infant son, John; and immediate Hopkins family members, Arthur, Connie, Gerard, Carolyn, Mark, and Alan.

A celebration of life will be held from 12 to 3 p.m. Saturday, February 15, 2025, at the Bangor Grande Hotel, 357 Odlin Rd., Bangor. A graveside service will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, May 31, 2025, at Sawyer Cemetery, Route 7, in Plymouth. Care has been provided by Shorey-Nichols Funeral Home and Cremation Services, Pittsfield.
