Blue Hill, Maine - Ronald Brown, beloved husband of Janet and father of Madeleine, passed from this world on February 13, 2022. His family and friends mourn his passing at the age of 68.

Ron had many titles - husband, father, son, brother, uncle, psychologist to many, and friend to many more - all important to his existence on this earth. He is remembered for his deep love of his family, his intellect, and his incredible sense of humor, which provided endless entertainment to friends and family over the years.

Ron grew up in Commerce, Michigan, the eldest of 5 siblings born to James D. Brown and Marilyn E. (Elwood) Brown. Ron dearly loved his siblings (sisters, Colleen McCray, Linda Rhodes, and Julie Dansercoer, and brother, Steve Brown) and whenever they were together, stories about his exploits as a youngster were the source of much amusement.

His family moved to West Carrolton, Ohio, when Ron was in high school. He was well-rounded in his talents, earning excellent grades throughout high school while on the football team, in drama club, the school choir, and working on weekends. Ron received his undergraduate degree from the University of Michigan in Ann Arbor, where he majored in psychology and minored in philosophy. It was in Ann Arbor where Ron and his future wife, Jan, met during their freshman year. They married 4 years later and moved to Montreal, Quebec, where Ron attended graduate school at McGill University. Ron was a promising, fiercely intelligent graduate student who earned his doctorate in clinical psychology.

After graduation, he commuted between Montreal and his work in Hartford, Connecticut, and then in Bangor, Maine, every weekend for 3 years while Jan completed her graduate studies. He frequently saw the winter highways through Vermont closed due to inclement weather, but he always managed to make it through to be with Jan. The American and Canadian border guards knew him well and provided his wife with updates on his crossing if she called looking for him.

When their studies ended, he and Jan settled in Maine, where their daughter was born - Ron went around handing out miniature bottles of single malt scotch in celebration - partly because of his love of Acadia National Park and the beauty and peace he and Jan enjoyed when exploring the many trails and paths. Ron had a long and fulfilling career, with tenures at Bangor Mental Health Institute, Togus VA Hospital, and a private practice in Bangor. He did work that he loved, and it was obvious to all who knew him.

Sincere thanks go to the wonderful staff at Harbor Hill Center in Belfast, Maine, who lovingly cared for Ron throughout the end stages of his illness, and to staff at Kindred Hospice in Bangor, Maine, who provided compassionate end-of-life care and support to Ron and his family.

Ron was a man of many titles, talents, and traits throughout his accomplished life, but now and forever more, he is, first and foremost, dearly, deeply missed. A private function to honor his memory and celebrate his life is planned for October.
