Bridgewater - Rodney Brent Tompkins, 58, loving father and grandfather, passed away peacefully on Monday, November 12, 2018, at the Mars Hill Nursing Home. Rodney was born on Feb. 22, 1960, to the late Merlin and Bernice (Davenport) Tompkins of Bridgewater Maine.
He had an infinite love for the family homestead on the Boundary Line Road and was able to remain there until the last couple weeks of his life. This is the place he found
enjoyment in building his pull truck "Old Habits", the "Tater Bug", watching NASCAR, and fishing down back. His bonfires with close friends and family were like his heart of gold ... LARGE!
Rockin Rod was educated at Central Aroostook High School and graduated with the class of 1978. He farmed with his father and later contributed his work ethic and knowledge to many local businesses including his own Sugar Hill Repair.
His favorite job was driving truck over the road for W. M. Jr. Trucking. During this time Rodney had a child, Nicolette "Pearl" Tompkins, with long time domestic associate (Rods words) Penny Brown. The immense love for his daughter would bring him off the road to finish his career at Tim Kingsbury and Whited Farms.
Rodney was predeceased by his father, Merlin; his mother, Bea; and son, Randy Brown.
He is survived by his daughter, Nicolette; very special grandson, Bentley M. Flewelling; beautiful granddaughter, Jazmyn T. Brown; loving partner, Penny Brown; sister, Peggy Tompkins; and friend, Cranston.
A special thanks to his friends, family, and the unbelievable team at TAMC from Cancer Care all the way through to the staff at the Mars Hill Nursing Home.
A memorial service for Rodney will be held 2 p.m. Sunday, November 18, at the Bridgewater Free Baptist Church. Arrangements in care of Dunn Funeral Home. Online condolences may be expressed on the Tribute Wall at
"Never say goodbye, instead I'll see you later. Catch me if you can, I'm the gingerbread man."
