Roswell, GA - Robert "Bob" Gass
January 15, 1944 - June 5, 2019

I want to get God's Word into the hands of as many people as possible during my lifetime.
- Bob Gass

Bob Gass - cherished author of The Word For You Today, evangelist, pastor, and teacher - died peacefully in his home on June, 5th. He was 75.
THE EARLY YEARS
Bob was born to James and Martha Gass on January 15th, 1944 in Belfast, Northern Ireland. Following the sudden death of his father, Martha became a single parent of three young children, raising them on a widow's pension of only $9 per week. She was a woman who held tightly to her faith in God, and she made certain that her children attended church with her every time the doors were open.
While attending church at Devon Parade, Bob gave his life to Christ at the tender age of twelve, during a special service held by Dr. James McConnell. Bob's life changed in every way. At thirteen, Bob preached his first sermon, entered fulltime ministry at 18, and with that, his life in ministry had begun.
At eighteen, Bob was given the opportunity to live in the U.S., under the tutorship of Pastor Gordon Magee. He arrived in Houston, Texas in 1962 with two sermons, a briefcase, one suit of clothes, and twenty-five cents in his pocket. Pastor Magee took Bob into his home and mentored and coached him in his communication and preaching skills.
THE MIDDLE YEARS
Bob's first church was in the Bay of Fundy, Back Bay, New Brunswick, Canada. He pastored there for two years and then moved to Bangor, Maine to take over a church from a retiring pastor. Upon his arrival, there were approximately 300 families in the church. Bob's brother, Neil, was the associate pastor, and worked faithfully alongside him. After twelve years the church had grown to over twelve hundred families.
In 1981 he resigned from pastoring and spent the next 15 years travelling across the U.S. and the world, as a popular guest speaker and evangelist. He also hosted his own television program called "The Breakfast Club."
THE LATTER YEARS
In 1991, Bob and Debby were married and their pastor gave Bob a prophecy before the wedding ceremony. He said, "You will reach more people through your writing, than you have in all the years of your preaching." At that moment, Bob had never written anything and had no idea how this would happen.
In 1994, Bob wrote the first edition of the daily devotional, The Word For You Today. At that time, God connected him with a group called United Christian Broadcasters, who were trying to launch Christian TV and radio in the U.K. Bob partnered with them, and today they publish more than 450,000 copies of the devotional each quarter in the U.K., and an additional six million copies per quarter in other countries.
In 1998, Bob launched The Word For You Today in the U.S. He wanted to give churches a tool that would help pastors disciple their members and keep them engaged with God's Word on a daily basis. Today over 5,000 churches each quarter use the devotional, with a reach of 1 million copies per quarter. The devotional is in print, on television, radio, and digital platforms in places like Africa, Argentina, Cuba, China, Ecuador, India, Mexico, Nepal, and Russia, and currently reaches over 83 million people each day.
In addition to his passion for his family and his calling to share God's Word, Bob and Debby shared a deep passion for the orphans of Romania. They first went to Romania in 1991, and in the last 28 years they built a transition home called The Village of Hope. Through this ministry they have rescued over 5,000 children from the streets, the sex-trade, and orphanages and placed them into loving homes.
Bob's favorite quote and life-long passion was this:
The World has yet to see what God can do with a man fully consecrated to Him.
By God's help, I aim to be that man.
D.L. Moody
Bob is survived by his loving wife Debby; daughter, Kathy Gass Shea, son-in-law, Michael Shea; Son, Neil Gass, daughter-in-law, Jackie Gass; grandchildren Alex Gass, Austin Gass, and Caitlin Shea; brother, Neil Gass, and sister-in-law, Ginny Gass; sister, Ruth Gass Halliday, and brother-in-law, Billy Halliday; nieces Cheryl Halliday and Shannon Wheeler, brother-in-law, Philip Shaw, sister-in-law, Andrea Shaw; Bob's best friend, Pastor Joe McKelvey, and long-time personal assistant, Tom Lissak.
A Celebration of his life and ministry will take place on June 22, 2019, 12 noon, at World Harvest Church, 320 Hardscrabble Road, Roswell, GA 30075. In lieu of flowers, memorial gifts may be made to the ongoing ministry of The Village of Hope online at BobGass.com, or via mail to Bob Gass Ministries P.O. Box 5130, Alpharetta, GA 30023.

Dear Bob, You were my pastor for many years and I'll always be grateful to God for the first day I picked up The Word for Today. God used you to transform my life and I hope to do the same as well. I always planned to meet you someday to tell you how much I appreciate you but I guess I'll have to wait till I see you in heaven. Thank you for your diligence and may the Lord bless and strengthen your family.

I am only just hearing of Bob passing. I am shock and sadden . It is as if I knew Bob personally. Since I signed up for The Word for Today a few years ago I read it with the scriptures every morning for my devotion. It helps me on my christian journey as the Word of God speaks to me especially during situations that I was experiencing at the time. Truly Bob was inspired by God and in obedience he allowed himself to be used by Him. May he rest in the arms of Jesus until His returning.
Praying for his family and friends that God will continues to bring them comfort at this difficult time.
God Bless

I remember a time in 1996 when I was going through the hardest period of my life with friction at work and living alone in a town distant from my family. I prayed earnestly for the Lord to intervene 1 hour every morning and 1 hour every night and then Bob wrote in the Word for Today that he had a specific word for someone that God had heard me and would deliver me from my circumstances. It was clearly fro me and I received it by faith. My life soon turned a corner and started to be successful at work with the group I was managing. After only a few months more of victory in my current situation, I found a new job with a significant pay rise and moved to that by the Lord's specific guidanc...e.
My wife and I have continued to read TWFT daily for years and it has been a blessing to us. Thank you Bob and thank you Jesus for Bob and Debby Gass!

I was shocked and very saddened when I heard the news of Bob Gass’s passing. I have been reading and relying on his Daily Devotionals for several years now. I will miss them dreadfully. He was such a blessing and I so enjoyed his “Word for Today” each morning on TBN. I can’t imagine 10am on TBN without him and his God given wonderful words. His teaching was exemplary and he had such a wonderful way of making one feel like he was a close friend. I know he is in Heaven with our Lord but he will be very sadly missed here on earth. It was a better place because he lived. May God bless him and his family.

I was strongly touched by the moving, edifying, and challenging tribute. Not only was learning about Brother Bob a blessing to me, but what was read about his mother touched me even moreso. O praise and bless the LORD for his mercy and kindness unto the children of men. This moving and uplifting tribute gave glory to the LORD of glory, the Father of lights, to whom all praise is due, and glimpses of His power and might, and working amongst the children of men, are evident all throughout this interesting read . Praise God that Christ died for our sins according to the scriptures, and that He is risen from the dead, according to the scriptures. And because He lives, we shall live as well. May y...ou find peace and comfort in the glorious gospel of the LORD Jesus Christ, and joy in the fact that you WILL see Bob again, because JESUS IS LORD.Read more
