Augusta - Rinette Theriault Michaud died Sunday, September 29, 2019, in the loving presence of her husband Lewis and daughter Sylvia in Augusta, Maine. She was 96. She was born February 17, 1923 in St. Francis, Maine, the daughter of Henry Theriault and Agnes Daigle Theriault, and lived most of her adult life in Madawaska and Brewer, Maine and Sun City, Arizona.
She is survived by her husband of 72 years Lewis; daughter Sylvia and partner Cameron Brown of Vassalboro; sons Peter of Readfield and former spouse Susan Curry of South Portland, and Kenneth and spouse Julia of Hampden; grandchildren Christopher of Portsmouth, New Hampshire, Elisabeth and partner David Benvenuti of Seattle, Washington, Samuel and spouse Jamie of Hermon, and Thomas and partner Allana Govoni of Portland; and great-grandson Jackson of Hermon.
She was predeceased by her parents; and her siblings Marie Jeanne Cormier, Priscilla Fisher, Grace Cormier, Theresa Driscoll, Olivant Theriault, Doretta Beaulieu, and Doran Theriault; and by her daughter-in-law Paula Plourde Michaud. Special mention must be made of numerous nieces and nephews and her two sisters-in-law and two brothers-in-law, with all of whom she corresponded frequently. For her, letter-writing was very much a living art.
Mrs. Michaud was also predeceased, and survived, by the thousands of ancestors and other relatives in the genealogical database she compiled during the last 50 years of her life. It was a pastime that fascinated and pleased her, and she happily shared the results of her labor. She was also a talented stained-glass artist and an avid bridge player.
Interment, after a private memorial ceremony, will be at the Veterans' Cemetery in Augusta, Maine. Her family wishes to express its appreciation and gratitude to the staff of the Maine Veterans' Home in Augusta and the MaineGeneral Hospice staff, all of whom provided her with excellent care during the last weeks of her life.

I fondly remember Mrs. Michaud, as a substitute teacher at St. Thomas School, in Madawaska, in the 1960's. I immediately liked her, and that did not change. I found her intelligent, upbeat personality invigorating. She had this way of making you comfortable with yourself, because she was comfortable with herself. Pleasant discourse and interaction with Mrs. Michaud was a given, as she struck me as being devoid of pretense, and just ON THE LEVEL. What a nice, and fine woman! I hadn't seen her in around fifty years, but when I saw her photo, I did a double take. It is my sincere hope that fond memories of this fine woman can cushion the impact of her departure that you presently feel, and that,... in time, your hearts will smile. My deepest condolences are extended to you, in profound sincerity.Read more
