BATH - Richard H. Towle, 94, of Bedford Street, passed away peacefully April 7, 2010, at Central Maine Medical Center. He was born Feb. 27, 1916, the son of Walter and Lillian Robinson Towle. Richard grew up in Palmyra and graduated from Maine Central Institute, Pittsfield. After high school he worked for Cushman's Bakery for several years. He married Marian Rudman Sept. 21, 1937, in Palmyra, and they moved to Bath to raise their family. Richard went to work for Oakhurst Dairy, Bath, as a delivery driver, retiring in 1981. He was also a member of the Masons, Polar Lodge No. 114. Richard was an avid golfer, and he enjoyed woodworking, ceramics and square dancing with his wife. He was predeceased by his wife, Marian; a brother, Clarence Towle; and a sister, Eleanor Hollister. Surviving him are three children, Richard Towle Jr. of Auburn, Robert Towle and his wife, Anne, of Paxton, Mass., and Kathie Towle of Rehoboth, Mass.; a brother, Frederick Towle of Connecticut; 10 grandchildren and 15 great-grandchildren. Visiting hours will be held 10-11 a.m. Monday, April 12, at David E. Desmond Funeral Home, 638 High St., Bath, where a Masonic service will take place 11 a.m. with a funeral service afterward.
