Orono - Richard "Rich" Alexander Morrow , 81, passed away on March 11,2019, comforted by his wife and daughters at his home in Orono, under the care of Hospice. He was born April 19,1937, in Powassan,. Ontario,Canada, the son of Alexander and Esther(McLachlan) Morrow.

As his father's position with Ontario Hydro required frequent relocations, Rich moved with his parents and two younger siblings to towns throughout Ontario - Gordon Bay, Bala , Stratford, Oshawa, and Kingston. He called Orono his "home town" residing there for almost 50 years, raising a family and enjoying community life. In 2004, he became a United States citizen.

Rich graduated from Queen's University, Kingston, Ontario in 1957, with a degree in physics/engineering, followed in 1958, by a master's degree in physics from University of British Columbia, Canada In 1963, he received his doctorate in physics from Princeton University . It was in Princeton, New Jersey where he met and married his wife , Terri. After teaching physics at the University of Maine for 35 years, and serving as chair of the physics department for five years, he retired as a Professor emeritus. Prior to coming to Maine in 1970, he was on the faculty at Princeton University and Dartmouth College.

Running was his favorite passion, he ran almost daily until he was 80 years of age. He enjoyed physical labor -- from mowing his large lawn with a hand-mower, to digging post holes at his daughter's farm, and maintaining a large vegetable garden for many years. A go-to guy for fixing things , he could repair a 40 year-old clothes dryer as well as unravel the mystery of a computer glitch. In retirement Rich and Terri traveled to Italy, Holland, England and throughout the United States and Canada. The last big trip was in November 2017, to Churchill, Manitoba, to view polar bears in their natural habitat

Rich was predeceased by sister, Lorna. Surviving in addition to his wife of 55 years, Terri ( Mazzarella) Morrow are his daughters, Nancy and husband Peter LaChance, of Whitby ,Ontario and Michele Morrow and her partner Kenneth Williams, of Candia, New Hampshire; three grandchildren , Stephanie, Rachel, and Gregory LaChance; one brother, Michael Morrow and his four children, Matthew, James, Elizabeth, and Catherine of London, England.

During my 15 years on the UMaine campus in Shibles Hall, I often worked with Rich and other science and math educators on grant projects with Maine teachers. Rich worked very well with teachers, able to communicate his science ideas clearly and with humor. He was always concerned that the teachers were interested and comfortable. Thank you, Rich, for bringing your science expertise to teachers from all over Maine.

The touching and informative tribute paid tribute to a man of sound body and mind. A man that I am confident that I would have liked to have gotten to know. Any person who is still running while in the seventies has earned my respect. My sincere condolences are extended to you over the loss of a remarkable man.
