Reginald J. Knowles Obituary
Newport, Maine - Reginald J. Knowles, 97, passed away on August 24, 2023, leaving his family with a lifetime of joyful memories and the sure knowledge of his love. He is now reunited in heaven with his wife Beatrice, the love of his life.
Reggie was born July 1, 1926, in Dover-Foxcroft, Maine, to the late Crosby and Leona (Deag) Knowles. He proudly served our country on the USS Trenton during World War II, and married his sweetheart, Beatrice (Lyford) while home on leave.
Reggie worked hard and excelled at a number of trades, including having his own barbershop in Hartland, weaving in a woolen mill, and hand sewing shoes. He could fix most anything with hand sewing string and duct tape. He enjoyed bowling, pool and golf, and made many friends in his activities. He was a member of the First Congregational Church of Pittsfield and the Sebasticook Valley Elks #2713 of Pittsfield.
Reggie was predeceased by his loving wife, Beatrice; his brothers: Arthur, Norman, George, Aubrey, and Barry; his sisters: Yvonne, RoseMarie, Phyllis, Patricia, Joanne, and Sandra Jean; and a son-in-law, John White.
He is survived by his three children: Laurel White of Newburgh, Gary Knowles and wife, Lillian, of Pittsfield, and Rebecca Gray and husband, Isaac, of Limington; brother, Ronald Knowles of Milo; grandchildren: Chris White and wife, Beth, Jennifer Madore and husband, Cory, Chris Bailey and fiancé, Gail, Rochelle White and husband, David, Corina Rackliff and husband, Jeremy, Erin Hobart and fiancé, Andy, Sarah Duplinsky and husband, John, and Elizabeth Gray-Cowing and wife, Donna; and many great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, and good friends.
The family would like to say a special thank you to Trish and the breakfast gang at East Newport Store and to Roxanne at Cervases for adding much joy to his years after the loss of his beloved wife.
We also wish to thank all those who helped care for him at home and the Gosnell Hospice House staff and volunteers who took such loving care of him and his family in his final days.
In lieu of flowers, friends and family are invited to make a donation in his name to the First Congregational Church of Pittsfield or your favorite veteran's organization.
A memorial service will be held at 1 p.m., Sunday, September 10, 2023, at Shorey-Nichols Funeral Home, 191 Hartland Ave., Pittsfield, with Pastor Kathi Smith officiating. Military Honors will be presented for his service to our country. A gathering will follow at the First Congregational Church in Pittsfield. All are welcome.
