Corinth - Phyllis R. Broad, 98, passed away on August 2, 2019 at a Bangor hospital surrounded by her family. Phyllis was born on March 29, 1921 in Mars Hill, the daughter of Harold E. and Evelyn R. (Roberts) Burke.
She grew up in Mars Hill and graduated from Caribou High School in 1939. On November 15, 1941 she married the love of her life, Russell V. Broad and together they raised a family of five children. Phyllis' main job was raising her family but she also managed to find time to work for a local potato farmer in the fall on the harvester. She also found work at a local grocery store. When Phyllis first moved to Corinth she was part of the first hot lunch program for the school.
In 1979, her family being mostly grown, she returned to the hot lunch program for SAD 64 and worked there until 2005. Even at 98 years old, she still remembered many of the faces that had gone through the lunch line. After retirement, Phyllis moved in with her eldest son, Richard and his wife, Rita and enjoyed relaxing, watching the Red Sox and Celtics, and most of all, visiting with family.
In addition to her husband of 59 years, Phyllis was predeceased by her sisters, Elizabeth, and Esther; grandson, Kenneth Grant; granddaughter-in-law, Jamie Broad; and two great-grandsons, Ethan and Elliot Broad. She is survived by her sister, Shirley Chase of Hollywood, FL; children, Carol Bouchey and husband, Paul of Rogers, AR, Linda Shuman and husband, Tom Owen of Chesapeake, VA, Doreen Pullen and husband, Robert of Levant, Richard and wife, Rita of Corinth, and Ronald and wife, Jackie of Bull Sholas, AR; granddaughters, Sherry Gibbs-Nelson, and Dawn Hanson both of Arkansas, Michelle Pullen of New York, Carrie Prescott and Jessica Dunton, both of Maine; grandsons, Russell Broad of Corinth, Carl Grant of Virginia Beach, Scott Pullen and Brent Pullen both of Levant, Ronald Broad of Glenburn; numerous great-grandchildren; nieces and nephews.

What an amazing lady! I will miss seeing her walk through my door, asking her how she's doing, and her response of "well I'm still here!" My deepest condolences to the family! Know a piece of my heart has gone with her as well!
