Peter F. Hyatt Obituary

Burnham, Maine - Peter F. Hyatt was called home by his Lord on March 5, 2025. Peter grew up in Westbury, New York, with nine siblings and fond memories of wiffle ball and baseball, trips to Jones beach, and shenanigans at the Mineola pool. Peter worked in ministry in New York and had a profound impact on those around him.

He eventually moved to Maine, where he worked as a social worker and investigator before establishing a career as a statement analyst, which took him around the country and the world teaching deception detection. His work allowed him to meet many wonderful colleagues who he was blessed to call friends.

Peter was a faithful servant of Christ, and he lived his faith every day. He was a loving husband, a dedicated father and grandfather, and a generous friend. He was funny and kind, patient and competitive, strong and compassionate, brilliant and humble, a gifted teacher and a life-long learner. He was known for his long Irish goodbyes, loving fully and with all his might, until the last moment. His words and interactions were an encouragement to others and he made the world a better place through his presence. Peter loved his quiet life in Burnham, where he enjoyed many interests including music, reading, chess, time with family and friends, and enjoying the peace and beauty of his surroundings. Peter faced his cancer diagnosis and treatment with bravery, trusting in the Lord at each step along the way, and pointing others to the hope of Christ until the very end.

Peter is survived by his wife and best friend, Heather; his former wife, Ann; his six children who were his pride, Peter, Joseph, Jonathan, Sarah, Christina, and Sean; and his 11 grandchildren who were his joy, Ethan, Julianna, Natalee, Olivia, Noah, Holden, Harrison, Archie, Addison, Calvin, and Lucy; as well as sons-in-law and daughters-in-law, siblings, nieces, nephews, and friends.

A funeral service will be held 10 a.m. Friday, March 14, 2025, at Brookings-Smith, 133 Center St., Bangor. Relatives and friends are invited to call from 9 a.m. until time of service. Those wishing to view the service remotely may do so by visiting my.forever.link/peter-hyatt. Condolences to the family may be expressed at BrookingsSmith.com.
