Pelham and Dorothea Howe Obituary

Franklin, Maine - I made my last journey on June 6, 2025, to be with my husband, Pelham, of 64 years. Pelham passed away on June 11, 2019, at home, as I did.

Pelham was born in Richmond, and was raised in Woolwich, where he had many an adventure known to those that knew him. After high school he joined the Air Force and was eventually stationed in Bitburg, Germany, where we met and where he swept me off my feet. Pelham was discharged in October of '54 and in November of '55 he brought me to America to see if I would like it which, I did, and we were married that December. At the time Pelham worked at Bath Iron Works while we lived with his parents and where I started learning English. In '56 we moved to Chicago where Pelham attended DeVry Technical Institute, graduating in '58. He was then employed by Picker X-ray for 20 years. In '78 he started on his own business, New England Radiographic Services that eventually became Howe and Howe X-ray, both of which were very successful. Pelham was well liked by his customers, many of those he considered friends. He enjoyed selling, installing and servicing x-ray equipment so much that he was into his 80s before he finally retired.

As for me, I was born in Trier, Germany. My childhood was interrupted by the War where life was not that easy. After I came to this country Pelham and I made a good life for each other. We had two wonderful children, Mark and Corina.

I loved to knit, read and had a business sewing show clothing for the horse world and also showed horses with my daughter. I loved our family very much, enjoying their company and watching our grandchildren growing up.

We are survived by our two children and their spouses, Mark and Leslie Howe of Columbia, and Corina and Brad Abbe of Roberts, Montana; three grandchildren, Brittany Russell, Shelby Greene, and Wyatt Abbe; eight great-grandchildren; and two nephews. We were predeceased by our parents, Melvin and Susan Howe of Woolwich, and Josef and Katharina Becker of Trier, Germany; and Pelham's brother, Dale and his wife, Donna, of Norwich, CT.
