Hudson, Maine - Paul J. Melanson, 89, died peacefully May 23, 2026, at his residence after a brief illness. He was born September 1, 1936, in Alton, a son of Emile and Evelyn Melanson.
He is survived by his wife, Viola of Hudson; his four children, Paul Melanson and his wife, Doreen, of Orono, James Melanson and his wife, Karen, of Levant, Salina Desmond of Orono, and Tina Nichols and her husband, Gary, of Harmony; daughter-in-law, Laurie Melanson of Old Town; many grandchildren and great-grandchildren. He was predeceased by a son, Christopher, in 2023.
Paul served in the United States Navy, 1954-1957. Following his service, Paul became a concrete mason by trade, and enjoyed mentoring his son, Christopher. He was a member of the Knights of Columbus and Parish of the Resurrection of the Lord, Holy Family Church. In his younger years, he enjoyed raising animals and farming life.
The family would like to extend a thank you to a special daughter-in-law, Lois Melanson, who was always by his side to help, and the hospice staff, Susan and Jen, who had utmost compassion.
Friends and family will gather 4-7 p.m. Thursday, June 4, 2026, at Birmingham Funeral Home, 438 Main St., Old Town. A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated 10:30 a.m. Friday, June 5, 2026, at Parish of the Resurrection of the Lord, Holy Family Church, 429 Main St., Old Town. Burial will be at Forest Hill Cemetery, Old Town. All are invited to the parish hall for a light luncheon and continued fellowship.
