Patrick R. Murray Obituary

Orrington, Maine - Patrick Reginald Murray, 78, passed away unexpectedly at his home in Orrington, Maine, on July 27, 2026. He was born March 27, 1948, in Bangor, Maine, son of the late Joseph and Isabelle Murray.

Dad loved football, whether he was on the field playing or watching from the stands or on the couch, every Sunday. He played football from a young age, starting with Pop Warner football and finishing with varsity football at Brewer High School, graduating in 1967. #54 played varsity all four years under the watchful eye of Coach Hadley. Coach had a lasting and profound impact on Dad; he would say he saved him and helped him graduate and become the man he was. He met the love of his life, Maryann, his sophomore year, and married her on September 15, 1967. Dad loved Mom with his whole heart and was her greatest supporter, motivator, and protector. During their 58 years of marriage, they shared countless moments together, whether camping, riding their Harley, taking care of their grandchildren, or just sharing a pizza from Kozy Korner.

Dad loved life and took pride in his strong work ethic. He drove an 18-wheeler for J.J. Nissen for 20 years and then kept on trucking with his own 18-wheeler for his own business, P & M Trucking. Even his hobbies included hard work: logging in the woods, delivering wood, snow plowing yards. If it required sweat and physicality, Dad was all in. In retirement, he opened a sawmill business at his home. He was happiest outside, talking with all his friends and Orrington boys (you all know who you are). If his garage door or sawmill doors were open, then he was open for business. Dad loved his grandchildren, Jared, Kathryn, and Ethan. If they had an event, he was there. Dad was always there. You will be greatly missed and forever remembered; rest easy and peacefully, Dad, you've earned it.

In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by his beloved grandfather, Jack McKenna; sisters, Shirley Murray and Judy (Murray) Sherman; in-laws, Ashley and Joan Dumont; friend, John Hodgins. Patrick is survived by his wife, Maryann Vienneau Murray; daughters, Kelly Murray Austin and husband, David, and Sheri Murray Norwood and husband, Peter; grandchildren, Jared Austin, Kathryn Austin, and Ethan Norwood; sister, Marilyn Gray; brother-in-law, Randy Sherman; beloved family friends, Bonnie Robertson and Jim Stewart; nieces and nephews; and many dear friends.
