Patricia (Parkhurst) Gee Pickard

November 20, 1931 - February 17, 2019

Bangor - Patricia (Parkhurst) Gee Pickard, wife of Carroll R. Pickard, went home to Jesus and reunite with her beloved family in Heaven February 17, 2019 in Bangor. She was born on November 20, 1931 in Bangor, the daughter of Leon E. and Vernice (Batchelder) Parkhurst.
Patricia was educated at Bangor schools and graduated from Bangor High School in 1949. In 1950, she married Donald M. Gee, formerly of Andover, New Brunswick, and lived in the Bangor area until Donald passed away in 1984.
Patricia was bookkeeper at Fox & Ginn Moving & Storage Co., and later, payroll bookkeeper at Diamond International Corp. She also worked in the office of Viner Shoe Factory. She was a member of Glad Tidings Church in Bangor for many years. Patricia was extensively involved with Channel 17, "The Door of Faith," a Christian television station that was established in the Bangor area.
Patricia later married Carroll Pickard, owner of Pleasant Hill Dairy in Hermon, and moved from her home in Glenburn to Hermon. In 1998, Carroll and Patricia moved to Barrington, Rhode Island, where they volunteered at Zion Bible College.
Because of Patricia's interest in history, she was a member of several historical societies, including State of Maine, Bangor, Hermon, Levant, Assemblies of God Historical Society, Pentecostal Historical Society, and more. She was very active in preserving history and contributed to historical preservation of other towns in the Bangor area. In 2004, Patricia donated a major Maine and personal family collection to the Bangor Room at the Bangor Public Library, and a major Pentecostal collection to the Flower Pentecostal Heritage Society in Springfield, Missouri. Further, Fuller Theological seminary in Pasadena, California acquired a major part of Patricia's personal Christian archival collection. Glad Tidings Church in Bangor was given a large collection of material pertaining to that church, as well as other area Pentecostal works.
Patricia authored and self-published a book entitled, "Voices of Pentecost in Bangor, Maine," plus several minor compositions which included articles, tracts, booklets, and poems. She worked with her pastor, the Reverend James E. Peters, publishing a history of Pentecost in Maine entitled, "Prevailing Westerlies." She also worked with the Rev. Mary Campbell Wilson to publish "The Obedience of Faith," the story of Rev. Christine A. Gibson, founder of what became Zion Bible College, now NorthPoint Bible College. Patricia co authored," Levant, Maine; A History," with Lynn Rogers and edited, "Hermon, Maine-Then and Now." She also has done extensive literary work on a woman evangelist, Kathryn Kuhlman.
While at Zion Bible College, Patricia worked with Dr. N. Benjamin Crandall, president, researching material for his sermons, classes, books, and autobiography. Beyond this, she was chosen to be historian and archivist of the College, and was actively involved in acquiring major donations to Zion's archives.
Patricia was predeceased by her parents; her first husband; two brothers, Paul and Nelson Parkhurst; four sisters, Phyllis Mitsch, Shirley Beesley, Mildred Belyea, and Ellen Ruth "Ruthie" Parkhurst; and half-sister, Carol Thompson.
She is survived by her husband, Carroll Pickard of Bangor; three children and their spouses, Barbie (Sadler) and Dr. Elmer Humphrey of Waxahachie, TX, Bonnie and Ronald Erickson of Bay City, WI, and Alan and Rosemary Gee of Phoenix, AZ; three step-children, Bruce Pickard of Davenport, FL, Linda Pickard of Lyman, Maine, and Stephen Pickard of Salt Lake City, Utah; eight grandchildren, Vicki Simmons of Phoenix, AZ, Jeffery Erickson of Phoenix, AZ, Janice Maroney of Wadena, MN, Jennifer Felber of Schneider, IN, Anthony, Bridget, Rosemary, and Luke Gee, all of Arizona; a step-grandson, Derek Pickard of Winchester, VA; ten great-grandchildren; several cousins, nieces and nephews; a sister-in-law, Isma Parkhurst of Orrington.
Relatives and friends are invited to call from 7-9 p.m. Wednesday, February 20, 2019 at Glad Tidings Church, 1033 Broadway, Bangor where a funeral service will be held 1:00 p.m. Thursday, February 21, 2019 with the Rev. Ron Morris, pastor, officiating. The family invites relatives and friends to share conversation and refreshments in the church fellowship hall immediately following the service on Thursday. Interment will be held later this spring in the Waugh Cemetery, Levant.

Patricia was one of a kind. She was detailed minded and studious, and would light up when you started talking about church history. We were honored having her and Carroll in our home the last time they were here for Janice and Mike’s wedding. She ate every drop of gumbo in her large bowl. She’s lived every day since she became saved for this time. My heart is sad for your earthly loss. There will be such a vacancy that won’t ever be filled. I always enjoyed being with her and Carroll. P.S. I learned the proper way to say “Bonnie” with her thick Maine accent.
Love you and big, big hugs to you all.

It was in August of 1999, that I first Mr and Mrs Packard, at their Barrington home, then, situated on Primrose road; adjacent to the then Zion Bible College. I had just been admitted to the College as a freshman from Zambia, Southern Africa. It was at their home and at that time, when Mrs Pickard and I, discovered that we actually shared the same birthday: 11/20 and that she and my wife shared their first name: Patricia. Our shared birthday and her shared first name with Patricia, were enough evidence for her to deduce that the crossing of our paths at Zion Bible College, were in fact anything act of divine connection and providence. Indeed, I needed a family in America, and the Lord, had j...ust provided one, through the Pickards. Henceforth, the late Mrs Patricia Pickard, became a mother to, me, and I became her African son. She later revealed to me that the Lord had instructed her to render support to me, more than she had ever done even to her biological children. She lived up to that divine instruction, for almost 20 years, from 1999. She strongly believed that all what is done in this world, will not last, except for that which is done in and for the Lord, will last forever. Her desire for me, was to mature into a giant of faith, for the glory of God. She was a very practical, loyal and true follower of Jesus Christ. Indeed, she was cognizant of her walk before the "audience of one." Her generosity and piety were conducted away from the glitter of the public eye and camera. She was a true imitator of the humility of her Savior, Jesus Christ. One day, she said: "Charles, I love God the father and the Holy Spirit, but I think, I tend to love God the Son, more. May the father bear with me, in this regard." Mum, my life, family and ministry will not be the same, now that the Lord has chosen to take you away from us at a time that we most needed you. You never withheld anything good from me, Patricia and the kids, whenever it was within your power to do something. May the Lord remember you for the good that you continued to do to me and my family, the least of His children. We loved you in life, and we will continue to love you in death. Rest in His eternal peace. Charles Mwila Mutambala. Your African son. Ndola, Zambia.Read more

Allen, Barb, and Bonnie, Our thoughts and prayers are with you all at this time because of your loss of your sweet mother. Your mother was very special and precious in so many ways. She was always so kind and friendly to my wife and I and I feel sure she often prayed for us. I was able to spend a little time with her at the Gee reunion in Perth and that was so special to me. We had a great discussion concerning the history of the Pentecostal movement in Maine and New Brunswick. She was a great historian and so interesting to talk to. Rest assured that we will keep you in our prayers. We are ministering in Australia at the moment and going on to Fiji for ministry over the next five week...s. So sorry we are going to miss the funeral. Will the funeral service be live streamed.? Blessings and please keep in touch. Don Hanscom Sr.Read more
