Norman L. Peavey, Sr.
He was born on November 4, 1937, to Frederick and Ada (Brown) Peavey in Millinocket, Maine.
Norman served in the Army National Guard of Engineers out of Millinocket and Bangor, Maine for 13 years. He completed Officer Training in Fort Belvoir, Virginia, where he became a 1st Lieutenant. He was proud of his dedication to his country although the U.S. Government never recognized his years of service.
He married Barbara Dumas on October 25, 1958, and they were married for 60 years. They had four children; sons, Mark Peavey, Jay Peavey and Eric Peavey as well as a daughter, Beth Peavey.
He worked in the Great Northern Paper Company for 36 years until his retirement in 1990.
Norman was a skydiver for years and became a master rigger and trainer. He had many good friends who enjoyed the sport with him.
He was an avid golfer and enjoyed playing throughout Maine and Florida where he resided for 13 years with his wife, Barbara, until moving back to Maine to be closer to their family and friends.
Norman was also a founding and lifetime member of the Millinocket Elks (B.P.O.E.). He held many positions within the club and served as Exalted Ruler. He enjoyed playing cards with other members for many years.
He will be sadly missed by his family and many lifelong friends.
Norman is survived by his wife, Barbara Peavey, children, Jay Peavey of Old Town, Maine, Eric Peavey of Westbrook, Maine, and Beth Peavey of East Millinocket, Maine. His grandchildren, Mark Peavey, Alyssa McInnis, Angela Tapley, Andrew Tapley, and Alexander Tapley. Great-grandchildren, Caleb, Ellora, Darren, Dominic, Madi, Van, and Sophia. He is also survived by his sisters
Florence (Peavey) Lancaster and Virginia (Peavey) Culver as well as nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Frederick and Ada, his brother, Frederick (Skip) Peavey, and his son, Mark Peavey.
A memorial reception will be held at the Millinocket Elks Lodge on November 10, 2018 from 1:00-4:00.
There will be no Funeral services per Norman's wishes.
Interment will take place in the Spring of 2019.
