Norman Sherwood Hesseltine Jr. Obituary

Milford, Maine - Norman Sherwood Hesseltine Jr., 90, of Milford, passed peacefully in his sleep on January 5, 2026, at the Veterans Home in Bangor. Norman was born on April 7, 1935, to Norman S. Hesseltine Sr. and Jessie Reed Hesseltine on the Call Road in Milford.

He attended Old Town High School and then joined the Navy. During his 3 years in the Navy, he participated in an around-the-world tour aboard the Naval Destroyer USS Forrest Royal. His next employment was with the Dole Electric Company in Bangor, where he quickly became a foreman and supervised jobs throughout the state of Maine. After leaving the Dole Co., he proudly accepted the position of director of engineering at EMMC in Bangor, where he worked until his retirement in 2000. He also worked as the electrical inspector for the City of Old Town, Throughout most of his adult life, he was an active parishioner of Parish of the Resurrection, Holy Family Church (formerly St. Joseph's Church) and a member of the Knights of Columbus, active in its Old Town bowling league and attending many of their dances with his wife, Helen.

On May 10, 1958, Norman married Constance Helen Boucher. Together they raised four children on Rasle Street in Old Town. Their first child, Linda, died at birth. Then came Steven, Ann, Scott, and Wendy. He ensured that throughout their childhoods they were loved, provided for, and exposed to as many happy outdoor activities as possible. Because he had lived a great deal of his life fishing on Nicatous Lake and staying with his Uncle Jake on Dollar Island, he ensured his children had many happy memories of doing the same.

Norman was predeceased by his parents, Norman Hesseltine Sr. and Jessie (Reed) Roberson; a sister, Linda; and a special sister-in-law, Brenda Hesseltine. He is survived by his wife, Helen C. Hesseltine; son, Steven Hesseltine and his wife, Kathy; daughter, Ann Reinzo and her husband, John; son, Scott Hesseltine and his wife, Michelle; daughter, Wendy Regan and her husband, Argo; many grandchildren and great-grandchildren; brothers, Wayne Hesseltine and Bob Hesseltine; and sisters, Flossie Betters, Susan Martin, Norma Vaillancourt, and Paula Hesseltine.

A celebration of life gathering will be held 3-6 p.m. Sunday at Birmingham Funeral Home, 438 Main St., Old Town. A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated 10 a.m. Monday at Parish of the Resurrection of the Lord, Holy Family Parish, Old Town.
