STOCKTON SPRINGS - STOCKTON SPRINGS - Naomi Nancy Skinner Crosby, 78, began life in heaven Oct. 7, 2009. Fondly known as "Aunt Nunny," she was born Nov. 2, 1930, in Ashland. She was the youngest child and third daughter of Lorenzo and Beatrice (Tilley) Skinner. Naomi enjoyed her early childhood in Ashland and River John, Nova Scotia. Her folks moved to "The Farm" in Belfast while she was in high school and she graduated from Crosby High in 1948. Naomi's post-graduate days were industrious, yet carefree. As a farmer's daughter she filled her days packing strawberries, picking peas and potatoes, feeding chicks, chasing barnyard goats and watching each newborn lamb arrive. She also took time to spoil all of her young nieces and nephews, be it treating them to ice cream, playing in the hayloft or helping them at Sunday school. After chores, summers were filled with swimming while winters brought sledding and skating. In her 20s, she began to keep company with a young man from Stockton Springs by the name of Douglas Crosby. She captured his heart and they were married Sept. 26, 1956. They welcomed their only son, Douglas Albert, in 1960. Life was busy for Naomi as she raised her son, supported the oil burner service and invited her neighbors into her home for conversation. She was well read and spent time bird and wildlife watching in her large back field. She and her husband were fond of taking nature rides and getting to Belfast to visit family. Naomi is survived by her loving and nurturing husband, R. Douglas; her son, Douglas A.; and close family friend, Mindy Ruth Novick. Her siblings and their spouses include Bert and Beatrice Skinner of Belfast, Dana and Helen Skinner of Hampden, and Alex and Anna Skinner of Tewksbury, Mass.; as well as a beloved brother-in-law, Lowell Keene of Belfast. She also leaves many nieces and nephews who truly loved and will dearly miss "Aunt Nunny." She was predeceased by her parents; and two sisters, Pauline Skinner Sylvester and Alberta Skinner Keene. Family and friends are invited 4-6 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 10, to the home of her son, Doug, 48 Stagecoach Road, Stockton Springs. A light reception will be offered. Funeral services will be 2 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 11, at Sandy Point Community Church with the Rev. Ruth Martin and the Rev. J. Cliff Gall. Arrangements are under the care of Young Funeral Home, Searsport.
