In loving memory — and on what would have been her 90th birthday — we remember and celebrate the remarkable life of our mother. Born Nancy Joan Buchanan in Brewer, Maine, the youngest of seven siblings, she was a true daughter of New England who lived a life marked by love, hard work, and a spirit of generosity.
A proud graduate of Bangor High School, Class of 1953, Nancy's journey took her far beyond Maine — from the heat of Texas military life, to building a home and raising a family in New Jersey, and ultimately returning to her beloved Maine shores.
She had a strong presence and a generous heart — always finding time to share words of encouragement with those she loved. She carried an indomitable spirit and a joy for life, especially in the love she had for her grandchildren. Whether managing food service operations across New Jersey, running a catering business, growing Christmas trees, or welcoming friends and family to her home on Pine Trail at Phillips Lake, Nancy took pride in every endeavor. Most of all, she delighted in sharing her love of Maine with family and friends alike.
Nancy's memory lives on in the countless lives she touched — in every warm blueberry muffin baked, every country song hummed, every teapot collected, and every kind word spoken to lift another's spirit. Her legacy of love, resilience, and joy remains a guiding light.
We miss you terribly, Mom. May the loons sing you a birthday song today, and may your beautiful spirit continue to shine gently upon us.
Forever loved, forever missed.
With love, from all who hold your heart close.
