Msgt. Maynard B. Buck Obituary

Sebastian, FL, Florida - It is with heavy hearts that the family of Maynard B. Buck shares his passing on February 20, 2026, at his home in Sebastian, Florida, following a brief period of declining health. Maynard was born on February 3, 1941, in New Sweden, Maine, to Jack L. A. Buck Sr. and Martha (Robichaud) Buck.

As a young boy, he worked alongside his brothers on the family farm in West Chapman, where he developed the strong Aroostook County work ethic that shaped his life. He met his future wife, Joye McPherson, in the first grade. It was not love at first sight, but time has a way of working things out, and they were married on March 10, 1961, beginning a partnership that would span 65 years and stand as one of the great blessings of his life.

Maynard joined the Maine Army National Guard in December 1959, and later transitioned to the United States Army. Over a distinguished 36-year military career, retiring in November 1995, he earned numerous recognitions, including two Army Commendation Medals. While serving as first sergeant with the 262nd Combat Engineers in Belfast, Maine, his unit received the 1982 Itschner Award, a national honor recognizing the Army National Guard's Outstanding Engineering Company. He led with quiet strength, steady expectations, and an unwavering sense of duty.

Of all his accomplishments, he took particular pride in knowing he had instilled in his children the importance of integrity; of doing the right thing even when no one was looking. It was a standard he modeled daily for his children, family, friends, and for the many who served beside him. He expected much, but never more than he expected of himself.

Maynard was a faithful member of West Chapman Advent Christian Church and later Cornerstone Christian Church in Vero Beach, Florida. He was also a 50-year member of the Washburn Masonic Lodge, reflecting his lifelong commitment to fellowship and community.

He is survived by his beloved wife, Joye; daughter, Barbara and her husband, Michael Gerdin, of Farmington; and sons, Blaine Buck and his wife, Mary, of Camden, and Bradley Buck and his wife, Elizabeth Sutherland, of Glenburn. He was a proud grandfather to Meghan, Elizabeth, Macy, Capri, Ian, and Colin (Coco); and a delighted great-grandfather to Grace. He is also survived by his sister, Cherryl Nickerson of North Carolina; his brother, David and wife, Pamela, of Etna; sisters-in-law, MaryAnne Buck and Pamela Porter Buck of Mapleton; as well as several cousins and many nieces and nephews.

He was predeceased by his parents; and his brothers, Jack Buck Jr., Blake Buck, and Brian Buck.

A celebration of Maynard's life will be held on June 27, 2026, at 10:30 a.m. at West Chapman Advent Christian Church. In lieu of flowers, donations in his memory may be made to The Aroostook House of Comfort, P.O.
