Bangor - Michael Shawn Gallagher, born January 28, 1962, died peacefully surrounded by those who loved him on December 4, 2018. Michael was diagnosed with ALS (Lou Gehrig's Disease) nearly nine years ago. He was born in Missouri and moved to Maine with his family at the age of seven.
Michael is survived by his loving mother, Marylou Gallagher of Bangor; his son, Gary Gallagher, who was named after Michael's late best friend Gary Inman; his devoted partner, Susan Faloon and her son, and Mike's buddy, Camden; dearest friends, Robert Yost and Melissa Gabriel; brothers, Charles Joseph Gallagher and wife, Cristie, Danny Gallagher Sr. and wife, Ruth, John Timothy Gallagher and wife, Lona; sisters, Katey Hurst and husband, Brian, Mary Ann Russell, Susan (Suzy)Turner and husband, Scott; and many nieces and nephews.
Michael graduated from Bangor High School in 1980, and attended Eastern Maine Vocational Technical Institute (EMVTI) studying Refrigeration, Air Condition and Heating Technology. He worked in the pharmacy at EMMC for 23 years, where he achieved several advanced certifications. He then started his own roofing company, Gallagher Roofing, which he loved and continued until he was no longer physically able to do it.
Michael was especially proud of his son, Gary, for all he has accomplished in the Army National Guard as well as at the University of Maine. It was so important to him that Gary pursue a college education.
He was an avid sports fan, and specifically loved the Kansas City Chiefs, as they were from his home state of Missouri. He also loved the Dodgers because his favorite pitcher, Clayton Kershaw, played for them. He had an opportunity to see Clayton pitch in June on a special trip to NYC. He loved to attend the casino and horse races, and was never afraid to place a bet. Those who knew him knew he was a jokester, and maintained his sense of humor right up until the end. His laugh was infectious.
A special memorial will be held Saturday, December 8, 2018, at 1:00 p.m. at Season's Restaurant in Bangor.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in his honor to any of the following organizations that helped make his life here on earth better in many ways:
