Bangor, Maine - Michael Alvarado, known to friends as "Ussi" or "Red" passed away on Sept. 11, 2025, at E.M.M.C., surrounded by friends and loved ones.
Michael was a proud indigenous man of Cherokee and Aztec descent. He was passionate about sharing the stories of Indigenous people and advocating for Indigenous rights. Originally from Georgia, Michael has called Maine home since the late-1980s. An accomplished guitarist, Michael could play the entire Beatles canon from memory and loved gathering with friends to sing and play music. He was active in many open mics around the Bangor area and enjoyed playing with the "Sunshine Service" band at Redeemer Lutheran Church. Friends knew him as someone with a big personality and an even bigger heart.
A funeral service will be held from 11 a.m. to 12 p.m. on Oct. 25, 2025 at Redeemer Lutheran Church, 540 Essex St., Bangor. In lieu of flowers, please consider supporting the work of Wabanaki Public Health and Wellness, 16 Central St., Bangor, ME 04401.
