Millinocket, Maine - Merle Stanley Snowman, 83, died peacefully on January 10, 2018, at the Maine Veteran's Home in Bangor. He was born on July 26, 1934, to Jean Clark Snowman and Merle Stanley Snowman. Stanley graduated from Ashland High School in June of 1951 and attended the University of Maine briefly before joining the United States Navy in 1953. He married his high school sweetheart in August of 1955 and completed his service as a Naval Sonarman in 1957.

He was able to resume his studies and graduate from the University of Maine with much support from his wife Barbara. Stanley furthered his education at Boston College earning his Juris Doctor Law Degree in 1966. Upon receiving his degree he moved his family to Millinocket where he practiced as an Attorney for over 40 years.

Stanley is survived by Barbara, his loving wife of 62 years, five children, eight grandchildren, and one great-grandchild. Dana and wife Camilla; Brenda, husband Edgar and children Monica and Nicole; Suzanne, husband Mark and children Zachary and Lucas; Matthew, wife Catherine and children Mitchell, Alexander, Ethan and Elizabeth; Marc and special friend Krystal and great-grandson Adrian. Stanley is predeceased by his parents, sister, Joanne, and granddaughter, Tara.

A mass of Christian burial will be celebrated in Stanley's memory on Saturday, January 20, 2018 at 10:00 a.m. at Christ of Divine Mercy Parish, St. Martin of Tours Catholic Church, 18 Colby Street, Millinocket, Maine 04462 with Father Bruce Sicket presiding. Family and friends are welcome to visit with the family prior to the Service and for a Luncheon immediately following in the Church Hall. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to The Katahdin Area Support Group.

In closing "Stan" was known for his sharp mind, quick wit and love of storytelling. He instilled in his children and grandchildren a love and appreciation for music, movies, hiking, fishing and the Maine North Woods; Mt. Katahdin in particular. We will always be grateful for these memories.
