Matthew Messer
Porter - Matthew Joseph Messer, 57, passed away peacefully January 8th, 2020 in Rockport, Maine after a courageous battle with cancer. He was loyal to friends and family, always eager to help anyone in need. Matt lived his final years on Moody Mountain in Porter - his favorite place in the world. Here he enjoyed nature, observing wildlife and hunting. Matt treasured the small things in life that seemed insignificant to most. He loved playing the guitar and music had a strong influence on his life. Matt enjoyed sports and was a gifted athlete at Hampden Academy. He had a special love for his cat of 17 years, Millie.
Matt is survived by brothers: Mark and wife Beth of Kennebunkport, Mike of Freeport, Marty and wife Meredith of Rockport; and sisters: Maureen El-Hajj of Rockland, Marie Webb and husband Peter of Stetson, Meg Philippon and husband Pat of Glenburn, and Malerie of Holden.

God bless the entire Messer family on your loss of your beloved brother Matthew. I didn't know Matt very well, just our battles on the basketball floor during men's league basketball. He always brought his "A" game and was a passionate player. I do , however, remember seeing all the Messer's lined up in church with Matt towering above everyone else. RIP Matt and sending heart felt condolences to the Messer family for your loss.

Matt was a Phi Mu Delta Fraternity member from the University of Southern Maine, we really enjoyed seeing him in attendance at our annual reunion, last summer's was held on the Cobbossee Stream In Gardiner. Matt got to reconnect with about 50 of his 'Brothers" from college days. In the last few years, many of us were sending him cards with angels on them, he loved cars with angels. Rest in Peace Matt. My sincere condolences to his family members.

My sincere condolences to all the Messer family. I had the chance to see Matt in the last few years while Al was here. He always had a smile and ‘how’s it going?’ He had even offered his painting services at one point. Big smile, big sense of humor....he will be greatly missed.
