Bangor, Maine - Mary Gradeski Khoury, 96, died October 6, 2025, peacefully at the Maine Veterans' Home in Bangor, following a brief illness. She was born August 6, 1929, in Lincoln, Massachusetts, the daughter of Mary and Adam Gradeski.
Mary earned an accounting degree at Burdett College. She married Ernest K. Khoury Jr. on May 6, 1956, after which they moved to Bangor, Maine. She was the founder and director of the Humpty Dumpty Nursery School from 1962 through 1971. She was an avid member of The Zonta Club of Bangor in the 1970s, a member St. John's Catholic Church, enjoyed being a nanny to multiple local families, and was a volunteer at The Cole's Transportation Museum.
She enthusiastically attended her children's athletic events and extracurricular activities. She was a lifelong fan of the Boston Red Sox, Boston Bruins, and New England Patriots. She created many braided rugs from previously worn woolen coats which she had a knack for locating throughout the region.
In addition to her parents, she was predeceased by her husband; and son, Charles. She is survived by her son, Ernest III (Beth); son, Douglas (Sandra); daughter, Mary; son, Alan (Brenda); son, Christopher; eight grandchildren, and three great-grandchildren.
A Requiem Mass will be held 11 a.m. Friday, October 17, at St. John's Catholic Church, 217 York Street, Bangor, Maine, followed by a graveside service at Mount Hope Cemetery.
