Canaan, Maine - A mighty giant of the faith has fallen. His spirit has returned to his Maker, ushered into the presence of Jesus by angels. The Bible offers the promise to believers that to be absent from the body is to be present with the Lord.

Mark Ames Curtis went home to be with the Lord on November 4, 2022, after a long, courageous battle for life. Despite multiple attempts by hospital doctors to persuade Mark to discontinue treatment, Mark repeatedly chose life. He cherished every precious moment with his family.

Mark was born in Rockland, Maine, as one of eight children. He was predeceased by his parents, James and Anita Curtis; and a brother.

Mark became a born-again Christian when he was 22 years old. That decision altered the course of his life. He was involved in the automotive industry most of his life, but his real life's calling was to preach the Gospel. He was a very gifted and knowledgeable preacher. He pastored five Maine churches, served as interim pastor in four churches, and preached in many other churches in Maine and Canada.

Mark shared the simple plan of salvation stated in the Bible, that everyone has sinned and needs a Saviour and that the only way to be saved is to trust in Jesus' shed blood for forgiveness of sins. He preached the same message wherever he went and to whomever he met.

Mark once said that though he was blessed by the hospitality of some very wealthy people, he was just as blessed visiting in the home of a poor Maine family with children huddled around a big old woodstove.

Mark was a longtime fan of the Patriots and Celtics. He also enjoyed taking rides through the countryside watching geese in the pond and farm animals in the fields. He enjoyed taking rides to the coast and feeding seagulls with his wife as well.

Mark was an incredibly devoted husband and father. He's survived by his much-loved wife of 38 years, Wanda Curtis; his daughter, Hannah Bruno (Isaac); his sons, Jacob, Elijah (Dakotah), and Joseph (Samantha); and he was blessed with nine precious grandchildren and another on the way.

A memorial service will be held at 10 a.m., Saturday, November 19, 2022, at the Central Church, 20 Mission Avenue, Augusta, Maine. A private burial will be held by the family.
