Kensington, MD, Maryland - Marguerite A. Littlefield Gonya Capen, 93, went peacefully to eternal life with her heavenly Father on died September 25, 2025. Marguerite was born in Orono, Maine, on May 1, 1932.

She spent her youth in Old Town, graduating from the class of 1950. Upon graduation, she and her older sister, Ernestine, opened a photography studio. Their success led them to contracts to travel the state of Maine to be the official photographer for many of the schools' annual class photos. On one of these trips, Marguerite found herself in Millinocket needing to be gassed up by the handsome gas attendant, the owner's son, David Gonya. Love ensued, marriage was swift and baby Martha was on the way. Life was good. Marguerite got restless to get back to meaningful work. After a few years working at her good friends, Pat and Rodney Wilson's Jewelry Store, Oville Gonya Sr. said she could expand the appliance wing of the business and did she ever, turning it into a large store which carried all major appliance brands and many furniture options. Meanwhile David took over the operations of the car dealership and gas and heating oil provider.

Maggie was the first female president of the Millinocket Chamber of Commerce. She was involved in many organizations and very engaged in events at St. Martin of Tours church. She was in the Garden Club, had a regular Bridge group, ladies golf club outings and always signed up for Fr. Parent's church trips. She loved to play games, particularly bridge, cribbage, and Scrabble. She also sang like a bird. Millinocket Players usually included Marguerite in some major role in their annual productions. "Li'l Abner," "Oklahoma" and "Guys and Dolls" to name a few. She was quite often requested to sing at weddings and funerals. She received recognition from the World Library of Sacred Music for her contribution to "singing the praises in the choirs of angels forever." But Marguerite's forever claim to fame will be her ever evolving, more elaborate each year, Halloween witch set up on Pleasant Street. The scary trip up the long dark driveway, some neighbors laying in the bushes to jump up at any moment, the witch at the top in the woods, putting spells on the apples she handed out and the howling witch laugh she bellowed out as children ran back down the driveway.

In July 1987, David, 60, passed and she was forced to figure out life without him. She moved to Veazie to begin her second act. As God would have it, a few months after she moved, she read in the Bangor Daily, the obituary of the wife (Jean) of her high school sweetheart, Laurence Capen. Nervous and tongue-tied, she finally got up the nerve to call him, and he was happy to hear from her. That began a tremendously fulfilling 25 years for them together, splitting their time between Richmond, Virginia, and Trenton, Maine. Martha gained stepsiblings and nieces and nephews and together the blended families shared many happy times together. Larry passed in January 2015 and Marguerite moved to Bethesda, MD, to be near Martha. We cannot say enough about the facility, Kensington Park, that Marguerite had lived in since February 2024. They lived their motto, "Loving and caring for your family like we would our own" every day. We are forever grateful for the care and kindness they provided.

Marguerite is survived by her daughter, Martha Humler (Herve); and grandchildren, Luke and Ava; stepdaughters, Lauren Baggerly (stepgrandchildren, Kristen and Daniel), Brenda Capen, and Diane Seaborn (Cary) (stepgrandchildren, Harrison and Carter); her sister, Carol Lord Klitch; her first cousin, Phronie Littlefield Bouchard, who's like a sister to her; nieces and nephews, Stephen Nightingale, Elizabeth (Betty) Nightingale Surrency, Matthew Nightingale, Mary Nightingale Campbell, Susan Lord Stewart, Hannah Lord Davis, Nathaniel Lord, Mary Katherine Brennan Oliver, Scott Gonya, Mary Ann Skinner, Susan Skinner Himmelsbach, Michael Skinner, Terry Connors, Mary Connors Huggins, Kathleen Connors McGillvray and several great nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by many loved ones but special mention of her sisters, Ernestine and Rita; and her beloved nephew, Tim Nightingale.

There will be a celebration of her life at 11 a.m. on May 1, 2026, at Holy Redeemer Catholic Church, 56 Mt. Desert St., Bar Harbor, ME., Burial will follow at Ledgelawn Cemetery, Bar Harbor, followed by a reception. She will be greatly missed.
