Margot (Cossmann) Flannery Obituary

Penobscot, Maine - Margot (Cossmann) Flannery, 87, died Saturday July 4, 2026, at her home. She was born October 2, 1938, in Massweiler, Germany, a daughter of Karl Cossman and Frieda Cossmann.

Margot had many passions in life; she was first and foremost a great mom, enjoying her time spent at home working in the garden and on the farm with her husband, Roger, her sons, and grandchildren. She worked for years in the blueberry fields and later on in the Penobscot Nursing Home as a hospice care worker where she deeply cared for the patients there. She enjoyed camping with her family and friends and looked forward to summer trips to Jo Mary Lake Campground. Margot enjoyed making many crafts that the family members still enjoy, including quilts that nearly every family member has, along with wreathes that she made for many people's front doors over the years. She was a Cub Scout and 4-H Club leader over the years in Hancock County.

She is survived by and will be sadly missed by her three sons, Ronald Flannery of Iron Mountain, Mich., David Flannery and his wife, Jean, of Orrington, and John Flannery of Penobscot; former daughter-in-law, Becky (Flannery) Wilbur and her husband, Tim, of Hancock and their son, Derek and grandson, Jace; seven grandchildren, Ashley Flannery, Danielle (Flannery) Kowalczyk, Eren Walker, Joseph Flannery, Mallory Flannery, Megan Flannery, and Roger A. Flannery; nine great-grandchildren, Ashton Flannery, Carter Flannery, Charlie Kowalczyk, Emma Flannery, Kaitlynn Flannery, Logan Flannery, Maverick Flannery, Rhett Flannery, Sohlar Sewell-Flannery, and Rene Abati of France, and their families; and many nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents and siblings, Margot was predeceased by her husband, Roger G. Flannery; one son, James Flannery Sr.; and by her grandson, James Flannery Jr.

Family and friends will gather for a graveside service on July 9, 2026, at 10:30 a.m. with Pastor Travis Therrien officiating. The service will be held at the Hillside Cemetery, in North Penobscot at the corner of Route 15 and Back Ridge Road. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions in Margot's memory may be made to Penobscot Fire Department, c/o James Clarke, P.O. Box 6, Penobscot, ME 04476.
