Madawaska - Louise Janet (Michaud) Wickenheiser, 69, of Madawaska, died Wednesday, Jan. 2, 2019, following a sudden and severe stroke.

Born Nov. 20, 1949, she was the daughter of Theo and Germaine (Gagnon) Michaud. A lifelong resident of Madawaska, she was well-known in the community for her big heart, warm personality and infectious smile.

She and her husband of 47 years, Kurt, raised three children - Matt, Jenny and Nina. She was a loving wife, mother and grandmother, and greatly enjoyed traveling to see her children and eight grandchildren. She had so much love to give, she adopted (and was adopted by) the Hebert family - Rob, Denise, Jake, Ben and Keri, of Madawaska. She was proud of all the kids from all her family.

Louise designed and created a multitude of amazing and beautiful quilts. She had an innate sense of how to match colors perfectly, and had the skill and passion to create works of art. She was a member of the Acadian Quilters Chapter of the Pine Tree Quilters Guild, where she served as vice president of raffle quilts, choosing and designing the yearly raffle quilt. She enjoyed helping to set up and run the popular quilt shows at the annual Acadian Festival.

She was a fierce cribbage player, and liked many other games, as well. She loved her country porch, where she would sit with Kurt, family and friends and enjoy the scenery, flowers and hummingbirds.

She was predeceased by her parents, her brother Jim and her sister, Linda (Michaud) McKone. She is survived by Kurt; Matt and his wife, Corene of Portland; Jenny and her husband, Scott Cowie of Auburn; Nina and her husband, Adam Fisher of Farmingdale; and grandchildren Noah and Jonas Wickenheiser; Michelle, Erin and Kelly Cowie; and Henry, Abbott and Eloise Fisher; as well as by brothers Ken, Keith and Steve and their spouses.

The family would like to thank the entire care team at Eastern Maine Medical Center, especially RNs Fatima, Melinda and Sue, for their compassion.

A celebration of Louise's life will be held in the spring, when her flowers are blooming.
