Waterville, Maine - Lorna Marian Speed, 91, passed away peacefully at the Oak Grove Center in Waterville on May 22, 2020. She was born in East Corinth on November 27, 1928, the youngest child of Irving and Addie (Guptill) Speed.
Lorna attended school in East Corinth and after graduating from East Corinth Academy in 1947, she attended Beal Business College and worked for many years in various office settings. Early in her career, she moved to Wheaton, Illinois where she worked for Sword of the Lord and then Youth for Christ. In the mid-60's she returned to Maine and worked for various insurance agencies in Bangor. After she retired, she enjoyed traveling with her sister, Isabelle. They traveled throughout much of the eastern part of the United States and also ventured into the Midwest a few times. They especially enjoyed the summer trips they took to Word Of Life in Schroon Lake, NY. Lorna was an active member of the Corinth Baptist Church where she served as the organist and church secretary for many years. She also enjoyed teaching Sunday School and helping with Vacation Bible School.
In addition to her parents, Lorna was predeceased by her brother Paul and her sister Isabelle. She is survived by seven nieces and nephews, John Speed and his wife Jan, Frances Mannion, Paul Speed and his wife Marty, Wayne Speed, and his wife Pam, Joyce Turner, and her husband Elwin, Norma Bean and her husband Philip and Jim Greatorex and his wife Lisa.
A private burial will take place at the Corinthian Cemetery on Friday, May 29. A memorial service will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers, those who wish may make contributions, in memory of Lorna, to the Corinth Baptist Church, 331 Main Street, Corinth, Maine 04427.
Arrangements have been entrusted to Thompson's Funeral Home, Corinth, Maine.
