Lewis Gillespie Obituary

Standish - STANDISH - Lewis Walter Gillespie, 60, died Saturday September 13, 2014 at Maine Medical Center in Portland. He was born February 26, 1954 in Bangor, Maine, a son of James and Maxine (Leavitt) Gillespie.


Walter grew up in Dexter and attended local schools. He enjoyed a 38-year career with the Portland Water District and was an avid coin collector. He will always be remembered as a loving father, husband, and dedicated family man.


Walter is survived by his loving wife of 32 years, Debra (Allen) Gillespie; sons, Christopher and Derek Gillespie of Standish; brother, Wayne Gillespie, his wife, Cloris and their son, James Edwards of Rialto, CA; and sister, Teresa Gillespie, her fiancé, Wayne Smith, and her daughter, Shannon Gillespie of Dexter.


A memorial service will be held 10 a.m. Thursday, September 18, 2014 at the Dolby & Dorr Funeral Chapel, 76 State Street, Gorham. Burial will held 11 a.m. Saturday, September 20, 2014 at Mt. Pleasant Cemetery, Dexter. In lieu of flowers, donations in his memory may be made to the American Cancer Society, Northern New England Region, 1 Bowdoin Mill Island, Suite 300, Topsham, Maine 04086.
