Bar Harbor - BAR HARBOR - Leman Lester "Smitty" Smith Jr., 88, loving husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather, died March 25, 2016, at the MDI Hospital. He was born May 19, 1927, in Bar Harbor, the son of Leman L. and Gertrude E. (Farnsworth) Smith Sr.

Smitty is survived by his wife of almost 68 years, Mary; 3 daughters, Trudy Smith and husband, Phillip, Patricia Perry, and Marcia King and husband Rodney; grandchildren, Jason Smith, Lindsay Cough and husband, Joe, Andrea Poirier and husband, Jon Zumwalt, Alicia Laurendeau and husband, Jeremy, Anthony Picard, Meaghan Perry and fiancé, Justin Gauger; great-grandchildren, Tory, Lexi and Andrew Smith, Orion Wilson, Gordon and Gregor Cough, Dominic Marino, Evelyn and Alec Zumwalt, Athena, Maddox, Spencer and Sienna Laurendeau; many nieces, nephews and cousins.

Smitty was a Member of the Anah Shrine Temple, where he was one of the founding members of the Anah Flag Unit.

A memorial service will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers, contributions in Smitty's memory may be made to The St. Saviors Outreach Fund, 49 Mt. Desert St., Bar Harbor, ME 04609.
