Lowell - Leigh Michelle Thurlow, beloved daughter of Ralph and Ellen Thurlow, passed away peacefully at her home in Lowell, Maine, on August 14, 2019. Even though she left us much sooner than we hoped, her beautiful smile, bright eyes, sense of humor and love of life will remain with family and friends forever.
Leigh was born in Lincoln on December 2, 1979. She lived in Lowell most of her life. She attended Morita's School of Dance, Penobscot Valley High School in Howland, Parsons School of Fashion Design in New York and earned a bachelor's degree from New England School of Communications in Bangor. She began her career as a video editor at WLBZ in Bangor and enjoyed many years as the Multi-Media instructor at Northern Penobscot Tech Region III in Lincoln.
Leigh made friends wherever she went. Whether she was at work or play, she always added humor, creativity and fun to everything she did. She loved to spend time with her family, co-workers and friends. She was always planning the next adventure or sharing memories about the latest ones with her Facebook fans, at camp on West Lake, with the Cold Stream Pond Crew, at Wing Wah or the "Rose Bowl". Her laugh will linger in everyone's memory.
She was passionate about her job and students at Region III. She took pride in bringing many opportunities into the program such as the "Pet of the Week" videos at the Humane Society, continuously updating technologies for video production, photography, coding and graphic design. She proudly accompanied her students to the annual SKILLS competition each year and was fortunate to have experienced winning the state competition and accompanying the winning team to the national competition in Kentucky in 2018. She encouraged all her students to achieve their best and be proud of their accomplishments.
Leigh is survived by her parents Ralph and Ellen; her grandmother Joyce Murchison; many aunts, uncles and cousins - including her special "sister-cousin" Jennifer Shorey. She was predeceased by her maternal grandfather, Delmont Preble; her paternal grandparents Kent and Theresa Thurlow; her "Uncle Ollie" Shorey and cousin Tom Preble. She also leaves behind her two "babies" (cats) - Archer and Murray.
We will always remember Leigh the way her great-grandmother Ethelyn Thurlow was described by her friends in her 1931 Lee Academy high school yearbook: "Her dancing blue eyes and sweet disposition have won her many friends. Her extremely funny stories have kept the group 'rarin' to go. We hate to have you leave us."
Family and friends will gather to share memories and celebrate Leigh's life on September 28 from 1-4 at the Lowell Town Office.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in her memory to either Northern Penobscot Tech Region III Scholarship Fund, 35 West Broadway, Lincoln, ME 04457, or to the Penobscot Valley Humane Society, P.O. Box 73, Lincoln, ME 04457. Messages of condolence may be expressed atlamsonfh.com.
